If you know anything about small business, then you know that some of a small business owner’s strongest business allies are other small business owners. When you are a part of the small business world, you realize that by working with other owners like yourself, you can often become more successful. This is especially true on the web as well as locally. If you want to promote your business more on the web, but have no budget to help you do so, consider working with other websites. To do this, you will have to log in a little time however. Not every website operator will be willing to help you out with advertising. Use these tips to help you along the way.

The first thing you want to do when considering a website link exchange with another site is to make your site the best it can be. Although this may sound irrelevant, it is likely website operators will only be willing to help you if they truly admire your site and find it appropriate. This should be the standard in all cases at least. If a website operator is going to commit to allowing your link to be placed on their website and vice versa, they will want your reputation and website to be top notch. So, before you even ask for the trade off, make sure your links are working and everything looks great with your own site.

After polishing your site, you will need to make a list of the potential websites you can trade with. If you are a member of another website, then certainly add it to your list. Any site that you regularly visit or contribute in some way to is a great place to begin. Consider sites that you frequently use for message boards or chat rooms as well. If the site is familiar with you in any way, they will be more likely to partner with you on this task. Make sure you are realistic in your list as well. An enormous site will not likely be interested in helping a smaller site promote itself.

When creating your list, also be aware of websites you are in competition with. Many people who automatically be drawn to websites that offer similar services as their own. This is a mistake however. The best thing to do is target sites that offer services or products that are somewhat connected to what you offer, however are not the same. For instance, if you operate a website that sells flowers, consider targeting another website that sells vases, but not a site that also sells flowers. If you can find a correlation that works for both you and the other site, you will reap the most benefits.

Once you have a strong list of potential sites to work with on the exchange, develop a little proposal to send to each webmaster or owner. This should be short and concise explanation of what you want to do, which is exchange links on your sites. You can outline a few potential benefits for the other site as well as yourself. Explain why you think your site would mesh well with theirs. Even if it seems elementary, they may not realize the benefits unless you spell them out in the proposal. Make sure you include contact information for yourself and ask them to respond by a specific date. You can reasonably state, “a response within ten days would be greatly appreciated”. Most webmasters or owners will likely have gotten around to reading the proposal in that amount of time.

Once you have a few sites on board, you can sit back and see the benefits roll in. With users seeing your link on their website as well, you will get much more traffic than usual. You will be able to reach an audience that you might not have gotten to otherwise. Using the method of exchanging links with other websites is an inexpensive way to boost your website’s traffic. You may need to research and connect in order to make the agreement work with other sites, but the effort is well worth the cost. Once you have developed these relationships between yourself and other sites, you will be able to work on other issues together as well. This type of networking is great for your business overall.

All Keyed Up – How to Use Words That Pay Off

You have decided that you want a website. But, how do you get it to be seen by search engines? The key is keywords. An adage on the Internet is that content is king, that is with the proper keywords in place. To learn a little more information about keywords and how important they are to your website – read on.

What’s the purpose of keywords? Keywords are specific, targeted words that people search with when looking for information. The search engines and directories will use the keywords found on your web site to place your site into a certain category. You will need to be sure that the keywords that you use are relevant to what you want to tell or sell to a customer. For example, if you have an adoption site and you want to sell books about adoption – then you might want to include “books about adoption” as a keyword phrase.

The search engines use certain mathematical calculation software to figure how and where a site ranks based on keywords and phrases. It is an algorithm. Based on this, it looks for certain criteria. Value to a site depends on how many times a keyword or phrase is used, where the keywords are located on your webpage, and finally how the tags on your site use the keywords. Different search engines use different algorithms. The purpose of choosing tightly defined keyword content for your site is so that you will get the spiders and crawlers to rank you higher in the engines and directories.

To find the best keywords for your website, there are several approaches to take. The most important part is to determine what a visitor might be looking for. Look around at other sites similar to yours and see keywords they are using. Ask yourself if it makes sense to use similar keywords for what you are selling. If it does, then you can be sure that your review of other websites is on target. By targeting good keywords, you will hit a home run with traffic and increase profits.

There are two ways to come up with a keyword list to use for your website. Take pencil in hand and write down every word or phrase that you can think of. You will have to begin with the basic words. For instance, if you are selling hats, include words like hats, color of hats, popular color of hats, and then expand from those such as formal hats, seasonal hats, hat accessories etc. Do not be afraid to use as many keywords as you think appropriate. Think not only of what you would search for but try to anticipate what others would search for as well. Use between 60 – 100 solid keywords and phrases and you will be well prepared for a spider or crawler to grab your website and rank it!

Many times, you will need a little extra help with finding the perfect keywords for your website. Take advantage of all of the special software on the market for keyword research. The software today is easy to use. You can often find niche markets that you have not previously thought of. Paid subscription plans will allow you access to millions of search engines too. Often it is the best way to research, especially for niche markets that are very profitable. The subscription plans are not that expensive and the hundreds of keywords that you can get from it are worth it.

Finally it needs to be stated that you’ll need to follow the rules with keywords, or your site will be dropped from the search engine ranking and directories. Don’t try to keyword stuff your site pages. Also, do not attempt dirty design tricks such as fake pages. The software will detect the hoax and it will cost you more in the long run. Site redesign, time in keyword regeneration, loss profits and a ruined reputation just are not worth it. Using them might initially draw your site up quickly in the search engine ratings, but once caught, you will lose those rankings. Follow the rules from the start and be honest, it is the best policy to follow. You’ll know when you succeed that all your hard work paid off.

An Introduction To Traffic Exchanges

Web Traffic Tips No Comments »
AddThis Social Bookmark Button

A traffic exchange is a membership website where the members can promote their own web pages by earning or buying “credits”. Credits can be earned by viewing other members’ web pages – otherwise known as “surfing for credits”.

To surf for credits all you need to do is to log in to the traffic exchange and hit the “Start Surfing” button. You will then be shown a member’s web page and a countdown timer. How long you will have to view the page varies from traffic exchange to traffic exchange and also depends on your membership status, but typically the timer takes 10 seconds to run down. When it hits zero you will have earned a credit and will be able to view a new web page. To do that you usually have to complete a simple “icon matching” task with a click of your mouse.

The more you surf, the more credits you will earn. And with some traffic exchanges you will also stand the chance of winning bonus credits and even cash prizes.

As your credits accumulate you can allocate them to your web pages, which will then be shown to other members of the traffic exchange.

Most traffic exchanges operate a “surf ratio” policy. This simply means that you need to surf more than one page in order to generate enough credit to have your page viewed in the system. Some traffic exchanges offer a 2:1 ratio, 3:1 or a 3:2 ratio, with a 1:1 ratio reserved for members who upgrade.

Another option for traffic exchange members is simply to buy credits. Traffic exchanges often hit you with “One Time Offers” where you can get a lot of credits at discounted rates if you buy straightaway.

As well as page viewing credits, traffic exchanges also offer “banner ad” and “text ad” impressions. Banners and text ads are shown above or below pages that you view when you surf for credits. You can get these impressions at a much cheaper rate than standard page-viewing credits. On the other hand, click-through rates are typically quite low.

Typically, a traffic exchange is free to join and has several “upgrade” options where you must pay a small monthly fee to secure the benefits.

So what are the benefits of upgrading?

It could be all or any of these benefits:

1. You get several hundred credits added to your account each month.

2. Your “surf ratio” improves.

3. The countdown time decreases.

4. You get new members randomly added to your “downline”.

5. You earn more in credits or commission whenever you recruit a new member for the traffic exchange.

Yes, traffic exchanges are also online affiliate businesses and when you join one you are allocated an affiliate number. If you check your member’s area you will see that there is a section devoted to promoting the traffic exchange. You can go there and get banners for your website or blog, and other promotional material such as email letters and so on.

Since you will be given free credits whenever you recruit someone to the traffic exchange, it makes sense to devote some space on your website or blog to promoting the traffic exchange.

You will also be encouraged to promote the traffic exchange on other traffic exchanges.

A lot of people join several traffic exchanges to gain extra exposure for their web pages, and also cross-promote their traffic exchanges in order to generate a lot of credits in the form of commission when people join traffic exchanges through their links.

When you use a traffic exchange to promote your website, here are a few common pitfalls that you will want to avoid:

1. Don’t promote pages that take a long time to download.

2. Don’t try to promote your main product with a long sales page. Keep your pages clean and simple with a basic message and either a sign up form for more info, or a “click here” button that will open up your main promotional page in a new browser window.

3. If you use a video promotion, don’t take more than ten seconds getting to your main message.

4. Make sure you do not run out of bandwidth – it is amazing how many times you see a “bandwidth limit expired” message instead of a member’s page when surfing traffic exchanges.

5. Do NOT promote XYZ traffic exchange on XYZ traffic exchange!! This sounds unbelievable, but a number of clueless people try to get traffic exchange members to join the traffic exchange that they are surfing on and are therefore already members of! Duh!

Traffic exchanges offer website owners a cheap and cheerful method of promoting their website pages and can be very effective if you know how to work them.

3 Quick Ways To Get Traffic

Web Traffic Tips No Comments »

Many who decide to put up a website and make a living online have the idea that traffic to their site will not be a problem. “If I build it, they will come.” It seems to be a popular approach for a lot of webmasters.

The sad truth is that traffic doesn’t just show up at your website without some planned, consistent effort on your part. They aren’t knocking your front door down just because you have a fantastic looking website.

Someone once said: “Running a business without advertising, is like winking in the dark. You know what you are doing, but no one else does.”

If you are needing more traffic to your site, here are three specific approaches that are guaranteed to work:

BUY SOME TRAFFIC-

One of the fastest ways to get some traffic is to buy it. Google AdWords is one of the better known and largest place for you to throw some money at this traffic issue.

You pay only for actual clicks on your Google ad to your site or affiliate link, but you need to be careful and watch your advertising budget. It can get quite expensive if you end paying for clicks that aren’t producing sales. Be sure to track your ads to determine your return on investment for your keywords and search engine.

As a note there are several other places beside Google to buy PPC traffic. Yahoo.com, Amazon.com, MSN.com and dozens of other places provide the option of PPC traffic. They all operate about the same way. You only pay for targeted visitors to your site who have clicked on one of your ads.

BORROW TRAFFIC FROM OTHERS-

Locate those who have mailing lists related to your area and ask them to post an ad in their list in exchange for a link on your site.

If you have your own mailing list, you could propose an ad swap. “I’ll run your ad in my list; You run my ad in your list.” You might have to offer a commission to the publisher to induce them into running your ad. That way they make a profit on it too.

You can locate these prospective publishers at a good search engine or publications like the Directory of Ezines.com. Be sure to target publishers who readers will be receptive to the type of offer your ad is offering.

If you are selling something to do with internet marketing, your targeted readers should be those interested in marketing on line.

BUILDING YOUR OWN TRAFFIC-

One of my favorite and time-tested ways to promote and market on line is to write and publish original articles. Other newsletter publishers will sometimes

reprint my articles and send them out to their readers.

To save a lot of work and aggravation when sending these articles out to publishers and article directories, you may want to consider a distribution service

like iSnare.com . For a nominal charge you can have your articles widely distributed in a very short time. You get what you pay for and this is one service

that has proven its worth.

Be sure to include a resource box at the end of your article so that interested readers may follow your link to your site or your affiliate link you are promoting. Ideally your article has prepared the reader and motivated them to be receptive for the type of offer you are making in your resource box.

Write many articles. Publish and distribute lots of articles.

If you will consistently apply there three traffic tactics discussed above, You will benefit from it with lots of traffic and permanent links (more or less) to your site which can benefit you for years to come.

Are You Making These Twitter Mistakes?

Do you Twitter?

It’s the latest craze, and one that can make you money, build your brand, get you clients, and bring on some great joint venture projects. No one made me the Twitter police but I have noticed there are ways to work Twitter and there are ways to use Twitter that won’t get you any work.

Here are some dont’s with regards to getting followers:

1. Don’t try to amass a huge following before you’ve done some tweeting. People will not be interested in following you when they click on your Twitter page to see what you’ve got, and notice you don’t have much. You need to have tweeted more than, “Trying to figure this Twitter out” and “I think I’ve got it figured out now.” Tweet, tweet, tweet before you gather your flock. Don’t know what to say? Try “retweeting” (RT) some other peoples’ tweets that resonate with you. Reply to what someone else says and start up a conversation. Tell what you’re doing on your business right now. Those are several tweets in the making right there.

2. Don’t shoot out promotion after promotion. When others look at your timeline, they’ll notice you’re just in it for you. People want to know what’s in it for them. There are millions of Twitters to follow, why should they follow you when you’re only tweeting about your own annoying promotions?

3. Engage in conversation with your Twitter friends. If they’re your friends/followers, shouldn’t you reply to them on a daily basis? I don’t mean reply to all of them everyday, just do several replies to various tweets a day. Again, your potential followers will look at your Twitter timeline and if you don’t ever talk to anyone, it’s a big turn off. It says ME, ME, ME. So hit @reply and give attaboys, words of encouragement, comments on their blog post link or tell them how you like their latest product. Offer answers when someone has a question, which is an excellent way to brand yourself as an expert. And if someone @replies to one of your posts, it’s considered common courtesy to comment back.

The biggest advantage of Twitter is using it to build relationships. Offer value, yes, but also take the time to “talk” to people so they can see you as a real life person. Give first, make friends, and watch your business world open up – just from tweeting on Twitter.

No matter what type of business you are doing online today, your site needs traffic. Without traffic you will have no interested lookers and therefore no sales.

Here are eight methods you can implement today to start building some traffic to your web site or service that you offer:

(1) Search engines:
Basic promotion requires that you optimize your web site and
submit it to the every search engine and directory you can locate.

The major ones like Google and Yahoo are important, but be sure to include the ones which are not as well known too. Your search engine rankings will benefit based on the number of sites on which you are listed.

(2) Visit Selected Forums:
Posting in forums is a good free way to gain some exposure. Simply answer questions and soon you can appear to be an expert. Be sure that the forum rules allow postings and sig files.

(3) Use Signature Files:
It’s easy to create an email signature file and a short promo line with the main benefits of your web site. You can even set up your email client to add automatically your sig file to every email that you send out.

(4) Post To Blogs:
Commenting in appropriate blogs is similar to posting in forums. Be sure your comments are welcomed and that you are allowed to leave a short sig file. Most Blog operators will welcome your comments and input.

(5) Traffic Exchanges:
Your investment of time visiting other sites will pay off with
reciprocal visits to your site. This is the basis of most all traffic exchanges. You can locate several them by doing a simple search for “traffic exchange” at any of the major search engines.

(6) Link Exchanges:
Trading links with other non-competitive sites that are in a
somewhat related area is a great way to build some free traffic.

By creating a links page and exchanging links you will benefit as well as the linking site. You can do all this manually or with software. Additionally, there are some linking services available online.

(7) Ad Swaps:
Contact the publishers of other newsletters and ezines. Offer to swap out some advertising space with them. Included in your ad is your resource box with a link to your site.

(8) Write Articles:
Write articles on topics related to your website and include a link in your resource box together with some author biographical information. Distribute your articles to article directories and ezine and newsletter publishers.

You can increase the distribution rate by using several services that are available online. For a small fee they will send your article out to several hundred publishers and article directories greatly increasing your exposure.

The result is that people will read your articles and will come to think of you as an expert in your area. This will increase the likelihood that they will buy from you.

Publishers will re-print your articles and many will upload them to their websites which will give you a great deal of free promotion and publicity.

6 Ways To Build Traffic & Links Today

The use of positive statements and compliments when approaching a webmaster or newsletter publisher for an ad swap, link exchange or joint venture will have far greater impact and success than almost anything else to improve your response rate and traffic. The old expression you may recall is, “You can catch more flies with honey than
vinegar”.

This same positive approach works as well on the Internet as in face-to-face situations in real life. Complimenting or flattering a person about anything they have done on line
is a great way to get your foot in the door and put them in a receptive mood for your proposal.

Here are six ways to go about doing this on the Internet:

(1) Surf the Internet for sites which are complimentary but not competitive with yours.

Let them know what you like about their site and information they have there. Personalize a brief proposal to the webmaster and offer to exchange links in order to build traffic and search engine rankings.

(2) Locate and subscribe to newsletters or ezines which are appropriate for your area or niche.

By subscribing and reading the newsletter or ezine you will become familiar with the author and the significance of his publication. When you find something useful and helpful, let
the publisher know. If you also publish an ezine, you can offer to do an ad swap which can bring you a lot of free traffic.

(3) Write and distribute articles inviting others to join you in joint ventures and to exchange reciprocal links.

Writing an article a day and distributing it to directories and other publishers is a great, free way to get some exposure and free traffic.

(4) Place links on your site.

Just a simple link on your site can gain you some needed and valuable exposure in a passive way. Offer a free report or other valuable resource like a software download to induce them. You just need to work on creating traffic to your site so visitors can take you up on your offer.

(5) Use email signatures.

Simple email signatures that are well created can have a great impact. Set up your email program always to add them to any messages that you send out. Out Of Office replies can be set up to include your signature response also.

(6) Respond to email offers.

Your positive response to selected email offers by others for more information can be the beginning of an on line relationship that will allow you to locate a joint venture or
other valuable resource.

Promotion of any site or service on line takes consistent and determined effort. It is of primary importance to the success of your site on line. Each day should begin with a re-doubling of your promotional efforts and a search for discovering new effective promotional resources and methods.

The use of positive statements and compliments when approaching a webmaster or newsletter publisher for an ad swap, link exchange or joint venture will have far greater impact and success than almost anything else to improve your response rate and traffic.

Explode Your Website Traffic With Simple Niche Articles

Web Traffic Tips No Comments »
AddThis Social Bookmark Button

For your internet business to be successful, you need to get large amounts of targeted traffic to your website, and internet marketers have found some pretty ingenious ways of driving targeted traffic to their websites, including pay-per-click campaigns, SEO (search engine optimization), email marketing and ezine advertising. Many marketers, however, have neglected a simple top quality method of driving traffic to their sites: writing short 400 word articles and submitting them so they appear all over the internet.

Don’t be mislead into thinking this is a waste of time, having your articles appear on lots of different websites helps you in two major ways:

1) Each article provides a link back to your website. If the content of the article matches the content of the web page you set the article link to, the search engines will deem this a relevant link. The more relevant links you get to your website, the higher it will be ranked in the search engines. The higher your site is ranked in the search engines, the more traffic you will receive.

2) People who use the search engines are looking for information, and if they come across one of your articles, and while reading the article find the content interesting and helpful, they will be inclined click on the link to your website so they can continue their research. The more places you can find to display your articles, the more people will find and read them and the more traffic you will get to your website.

What should your articles consist of? Nothing fancy, each article should be around 400 words long and contain just enough content to:

- Give the reader some useful information.

- Interest an ezine editor enough to want to publish your article.

- Get the readers interest raised to the point they want to click on the link to your website to get more information.

Your article could be:

- One or two tips lifted from the info product you are selling from your website.

- Paraphrased information from a particular web page you would like the reader to visit.

- A review of a product you would like the reader to purchase. The link in a review would point to your affiliate page via a link tracker, or to a page on your website where you offer more details.

You don’t even have to write your own articles… You can pay a ghost writer to write them for you. To do this, visit websites like Elance.com where you can list details of the articles you want written and find people who are interested in writing them for you. Make it quite clear to the person who writes your articles that you keep the copyright.

Once you have your article ready for distribution, you need to submit to as many places as possible, including these three places:

1. Article Directories. After a quick content check, the directories will then publish your article instantly, and once you submit your content to one of these directories it will begin to be republished all over the internet. People are constantly on the lookout for quality articles, and you can allow them the rights to re-use yours as long as they leave intact the link back to your website contained in the bio at the bottom of the article. Anyone who wants to visit your site can do so by clicking on this link.

2. Ezine Editors. Submitting your articles to popular ezines related to your niche website will get you lots of well-targeted traffic. Many ezines desperately need new good quality content. If you submit an article for publication in one, you will get a lot of publicity in return. Having hundreds or even better, thousands of people reading your articles is always a good way to increase your website traffic.

3. Your Own Article Directory. Many webmasters and ezine publishers don’t know that article directories exist. After reading one of your articles they will visit your website and you should prominently display a link to your own articles. The link must make the reader aware that you content is free for use in any website or ezine. For example, use the wording “Get Free Content For Your Ezine” in a link in a very noticeable place on your website.

To avoid being tagged as spam mail, viral marketing counts on the eagerness of one person to pas on the product. If a person sees the name of the person they know as the sender, they won’t block it and open it as well.
