When you send a bulk text message, your subscribers are instantly notified of your promotion.

This is great, but there are some common mistakes when sending out text messages.

Here are some common mistakes that business owners make when implementing their text message marketing campaigns.

• With text message marketing, you only have 160 characters to get your message across, so you must be very clear and concise, when creating a text sms campaign.

What are you trying to get the person on the other end of the text to do and what is the best way to communicate that message?

• Some people might not be willing to sign up for a text message subscription list unless they have a good reason to do so.

The text message marketer should keep this in mind and develop a good call to action that delivers results.

• Right now group texting is in the early stages of popularity among local businesses and celebrities, but as it gains more traction in the marketplace, text message advertising will have less of a “wow” effect.

This will make it more difficult to get subscribers unless your offer truly is unique and valuable.

If you keep these ideas in mind when creating your text ads campaign, you are almost certain to attain and keep loyal subscribers and grow your business or fan base.

Mobile marketing is a huge opportunity right now, and text message marketing has the highest
reach of any other form of mobile marketing Business SMS is growing very rapidly.

Just look at some of these surprising statistics…

• Over 250 million Americans carry mobile phones, over 80% of the nation’s population,
and that is just in America.

• By 2012, an estimated 10 trillion text messages will be sent and delivered globally.

• Four out of five teens carry a wireless device, and the majority (57%) view their cell
phone as the key to their social life.

• Customer time spent on mobile devices is rising faster than the time spent on any other form of media

• According to multiple analysts, Mobile Marketing and Advertising will explode from just
a couple hundred million dollars in revenues in 2008 to $3 – 5 Billion by 2012.

• Text messaging alone gets seven to fifteen times the response rate of an email and has
an astounding 97% open rate.

• The speed in which a text message is opened and read is also usually much faster than
an email occurring within the first few minutes as opposed to an email which might take
days to be read, if opened at all.

• Text messaging also can have a measurable ROI as opposed to some forms of media,
such as social media, which is harder to calculate.

If you are new to bulk text messaging, you might not know how to let your customers/fans know about your text message subscription list.

I wanted to share some valuable information that will help you get subscribers to sign up for your text message list.

Any customer/fan touch point is a possible time to let them know about your text message promotions.

Here are some creative ideas on how you can market your text message short code.

• A poster on your window or on the sign outside which informs your customers that if they text to “97485”, they will receive a dessert the next time they come in, is a great way to advertise your text message subscription list. (For restaurants)

• Training your staff to let customers know about the deal that they will get by joining your text message list will help build your sms text database. It helps to somehow give the customer or follower a bribe of some sort so that they are incentivized to join.

• Local businesses texting coupons out to their customers might already be running a newspaper ad; why not could include your short code and an incentive to join your list in that advertisement?

• Table tents are an inexpensive way to inform your customers of your texting deals, you could set them up at the front desk of a local business, in the bathroom, or anywhere else that is a high traffic area.

• Business cards are a great place to put your sms short code as well, or you could even use your text message list to be your actual business card, so that whenever people sign up, they will get your personal information in the sms response message.

• You could run a TV advertisement which lets people know to text to “97485” to join your mobile fan club and potentially win a sweepstakes prize.

• If you have a website, facebook page, or twitter account, you could use these mediums to advertise your short code. Doing this could also help you measure the effectiveness of those mediums.

The possibilities of text message marketing is only limited to your imagination.

Any place that has a lot of “eyeballs” would be a great place for customers or followers to see your text code. Just remember that you need to give them a good reason to join .

I want you to have the best success with text message advertising, so I put
together a list of creative ways that you can use text message marketing and group texting to get your message out to the people that need to hear it.

- You could use your sms marketing to send people mobile games or free apps that correlate to your business. People with cell phones love games, and any creative way to engage users is a new possible advertising platform and a way to build brand awareness.

- A local business texting to its clients could run polls to figure out how to run their business more effectively, people love to give their opinions, and text message marketing would be a quick way to understand how customers view your business.

- You could use text messaging to send out information that is time sensitive to your company, like when the next business meeting is, or that the company fundraiser has been changed to a different date.

- You could have your short code on your mobile real estate listings or other mobile advertising, which could be quite an effective way to get subscribers to your text message promotions considering that they are on their phone right already (right then) and it would take no time at all for them to sign up.
