Most new internet marketers do not realize how vital a profitable email marketing list will be to their future prosperity. List building is not something that should be deferred to a future time. It is an activity that should be engaged in from day one.

A person who is brand new to trying to make an income on the World Wide Web is greeted with an amazing array of choices as to what he should do first. He is inundated with the sales pitches of marketing gurus for their latest launches, any one of which will surely enable him to retire in a few months with a six figure income. This he will accomplish with very little work.

As he begins, as we’ve all done, to buy one ebook, or one course, or one series of coaching sessions, one after another, he only becomes confused. Nothing has yet enabled him to live on a tropical beach where he will work just a couple of hours a day on his laptop as promised, while supporting his family in the fine style to which they would dearly love to become accustomed. He merely becomes poorer and poorer.

He is overwhelmed with tons of information which makes his head swim. The last thing that enters his mind is the thought of a mailing list. At this point, he is wondering if he will ever sell anything at all. period. He is beginning to panic.

There is only one cure for the pickle in which he finds himself. He must stop buying internet marketing information immediately. By now, he probably has a huge library of marketing methods which he can comb through. After taking into consideration hungry markets and really good keywords, he must pick out just ONE method with which to proceed. He must focus all his efforts on this one method from now on.

As he is doing all this combing, he will surely see that some of the brand new shiny stuff which he has bought is not much good at all. Do the guru-marketers answer their support emails? Is there help available if a question needs to be answered? He may discover that he has been well and truly scammed by many of the authors who he thought were going to be his saviors. It’s bitter to realize they were just after his money.

Now he must buckle down and work that one method to the exclusion of everything else. Most importantly, he must learn how to build a profitable email marketing list. Then he must put his new knowledge into effect right away.

As time passes and he fills his blog or website with valuable content, he will discover that Google approves of him and is sending him traffic. His bank account is beginning to recover and he is beginning to feel pretty good about internet marketing.

Soon he will learn of the true magic of a mailing list. He finds a great new product that he loves and that he thinks the folks on his list will love also. He decides to send everyone a review of the product. By now, he has about 300 people on his list. He blasts out the review to all 300. How much does this cost him? Zip! Nada! Nothing! He thinks for a minute of how much a snail mail advertisement would have cost him and he thinks, WOW!

By the next day the orders for the great new product are pouring in. He can’t believe how much money he has made in just one day! He has earned enough to take his whole family on a two week vacation to Maui. And he still has plenty of money left over.

Our newbie marketer has just learned the magic of profitable email marketing lists. It is to be hoped that you will not wait for some future time, but that you will begin to build your own profitable email marketing list right now. As they say, there is no time like the present!

Planning an email campaign is not quite as tough as eating an elephant, but the process is very similar.

The way to complete any large task has essentially the same answer, “One step at a time.” Taken all-at-once it may be overwhelming. Break it down into its elements, into small bite-sized pieces, and those really don’t look formidable in any way.

The individual steps can each be relatively simple, something that’s no big problem, that you can do. And when you’ve completed all the steps, you suddenly realize that you’ve come all the way from the beginning to the end of completing the project! It is exactly the same with how to plan an email campaign.. Here then is the way you approach the elephantine task of planning an email campaign, in 6 simple steps.

Step 1.
Determine how long you want the email to be.

With this you need to decide if you want to include full articles in the email or just teaser paragraphs and links to your web site.. If shorter is better, then linking to your web site is the best way to go. Keep in mind what your readers prefer. Some may want to have the whole article in the email. This is something you may want to test.

Step 2.
Decide how often you want to send email.

This step will be important because if you send email too frequently, your subscribers may decide to opt out of your list. However, if you send email too infrequently you run the risk of subscribers forgetting they ever signed up. In general it is better to send too few email than send too many. The answer really lies with the quality of the content of the email. If the content is valued by the subscriber, then they will not complain about frequent email.

Step 3.
Determine the best time to send email.

This will depend upon your subscribers and will require some testing and time to determine. Generally, email for business seem to get the best open rates on Tuesday through Thursday, between 10 am and 2 pm. But, this can vary with different types of subscribers.

Step 4.
Generating an email list.

This involves setting up opt in forms on your web site and/or if you are a retail type establishment you can have customers sign up for your list at your place of business. To get the best results you need to offer an incentive in exchange for the customers email. This can take the form of free reports, white papers or coupons and discounts.

Step 5.
Avoid email being filtered.

A key point you will want to remember here will be there is no way to guarantee that all of your email can avoid being filtered. The best approach is to avoid using common spam words such as “free” and avoid using “ALL CAPS”. Many of the email services offer email testing services were you can determine if your content has a problem. then you can make changes before sending out the email.

Step 6.
Writing quality content.

This is a very important step. You always want to be giving your readers something of quality. That is why they subscribed to your list. If readers do not find value with the content of your email they may not opt out, but they will stop opening it. Either way you are not communicating with your customers.

Email marketing is an art. You need to keep providing enough quality content to keep your subscribers opening your email. Then along the way you can put in a sales pitch and they will be more likely to respond.

As an affiliate marketer there are two things that you want more than anything else, one is traffic and the other is sales. Though sales will be really limited without traffic, it is possible to have traffic, yet no sales, which can be totally frustrating. Why does this happen? There could be a few reasons.

First, you may have selected a market in which people are strictly looking for free information, never intending to pull out their wallets. Did you do sufficient market research up front to know that people are buying what you are selling? You may have found keywords that have a fair volume of traffic with low competition and thought you had a goldmine, when in reality, the competition is low because those keywords are not ‘buying’ keywords.

Second, the traffic you are bringing to your site might not be targeted and therefore they are not interested in what you have to sell. Depending on the method you are using to drive people to your site, you may be hosting the wrong folk! Ensure the effort you are putting in to bring people to your site, is focused toward the target audience who will truly be interested in what you have to offer.

Third, your site and/or sales page may be lacking. If the product or service you are offering is truly in demand and you have targeted traffic coming to your site but you are not making sales you need to start doing some split-testing on the copy of your site and/or the look of your site. Solicit input from others if need be, as to what they like or don’t like and start making some changes.

One other MAJOR factor to consider is this: are you capturing the name and email address of your visitors? Why you ask? Well the truth is that the percentage of sales in affiliate marketing, from first-time visitors is very low. So if your Website is designed in such a way that you direct your traffic to an affiliate link without first capturing their contact info, they will click on the link, check out the product or service and very likely just continue surfing.

However, if you get them to subscribe to your list and then send them to your affiliate offer, you then have a means of staying in contact with them, sending them additional information as well as links to the affiliate products or services you are promoting. If you send out valuable information, you will start to build a rapport with your subscribers and the more they feel they can trust you, the more likely they are to buy what you’re selling.

So, if the answer to, “Who’s on your list?” is ‘nobody’, and you are serious about building a business then invest some money in an autoresponder service and start building what is sure to become, the lifeline of your business – your list.

The 3 Best eZine Formats

eZine publishers today use any one or more of the 3 most commonly used eZine formats which I am about to describe to you in this article.

Ultimately, you can decide which format is the best choice for you, though each winning format has its pros and cons.

The text eZine is the most commonly published. The advantage of this format is that other than writing, you do not require any special skill to use a Word or Notepad program.

While the HTML eZine format requires a certain degree of HTML skills on your part, you can add more sophisticated features to your eZine issues, making them more appealing to your subscriber thus increases your readership value, something that text eZines do not have.

You can decorate your eZine format, change your fonts, include pictures, and more. However, the drawback often faced by HTML eZines is that they often get trapped into spam filters before they reach their subscribers’ inboxes.

The third and least used among the 3 formats is the PDF eZine. Publishing your eZine in PDF format can consume a lot of time and effort on your part but often make up in quality readership

Due to the commitment, PDF eZines are usually published on a monthly basis. The great part, though, is that you can put in your affiliate links in your PDF eZine issue and allow your subscribers to pass the eZine issue around.

Given the choices, however, you do not have to necessarily choose strictly one eZine format, as some eZine publishers today do publish in more than one format.

Do you need an auto-responder? Do you have a blog or a website? Do you have a product to sell? Would you like to create a list of people interested in your niche?

Then the simple answer is “YES” you do need an auto-responder.

Here are a few things to consider when choosing which auto-responder company to use.

1. Choose an auto-responder that is user friendly and offers excellent support. Using a company that provides training through videos, webinars, and quickly answered e-mails, will make the difference in trying to figure out exactly how to get the most from your auto-responder.

2. Once you have begun to develop your list, you will want to have reports available. These reports will tell you what is working well and what is not. That gives you the opportunity to tweak what you are doing to get better results.

3. Having the option to develop several lists is a must. Most people have more than one blog or website and want to keep their lists separate. You do not want to send information about training your dog to those who have signed up through your weight loss site. You must be able to keep them separate.

4. Being able to set up and schedule e-mails in advance is one of the most important aspects of an auto-responder. If you were not able to do that, then you would be doing it by hand. The “auto” would no longer be working. Make sure you can send out scheduled e-mails as well as broadcast e-mails. These are the ones you might want to send out when you post a new blog or learn of a new product. These can be sent to everyone immediately, regardless of where they are in the scheduled process.

5. The best auto-responders will have templates for you to create your own opt-in boxes. It is important to have this flexibility of design, color, etc. in order to create what is appropriate for your site. If you have a peaceful, pastel site, you do not want to be limited to a red opt-in box.

6. Price set up is very important. You want to choose a company that starts with a small price while you get started and than increases as you add more members to your lists. You should have several levels that go up as your business increases.

7. Be sure to go with one of the larger auto-responder companies. If you start with something smaller that may have a smaller server, you likely will outgrow it. Then, when you want to switch to a different company, you may run in to difficulties getting all your information changed over.

This article will provide useful information for business owners who are hoping to improve their sales or website traffic through effective email marketing.

If you do not have a great deal of information about email marketing and do not fully understand the principles involved one of the best ways to orchestrate a truly effective email marketing campaign is to hire a consulting firm with a proven track record in promoting business through email marketing to assist you in your endeavor. Similarly to traditional marketing such as radio, television and print media, the popular strategies governing email marketing are changing constantly. As a business owner you likely already have enough to deal with trying to stay up to date on business practices that you do not have the time, energy or finances to also stay up to date on the latest changes in email marketing.

For this reason it is certainly worthwhile to hire a professional in the email marketing industry who can devote himself full time to keeping up to date with the most effective email marketing strategies and designing an email marketing campaign for our business to help you achieve your business related goals. However, selecting a consultant from the many options available can be downright overwhelming. In general you should look for a consultant who has a great deal of experience, a proven track record, listens to your questions carefully, explains concepts simply and makes your project a priority.

Another popular strategy for email marketing is to offer an email correspondence course on a subject closely related to your website or the products or services you offer. These correspondence courses should include a number of short segments, provide useful information, be of interest to your intended audience and should also help to promote your business in some way. The simplest way to promote your business without having your correspondence course deemed to be spam is to use a soft sell approach to subtly urge readers to make a purchase or visit your website for more information.

Publishing and distributing period e-newsletters is another example of an email marketing strategy which can be highly effective. An e-newsletter is very similar to a newsletter which is printed and distributed by conventional methods such as mail delivery. The bulk of an e-newsletter should be quality content in the form of featured articles, short articles containing useful tips or product reviews. The e-newsletter may also contain graphical elements. These elements may simply be graphic designs or they may be graphics which also serve as links. The links may direct traffic to your website or to other websites. Finally, your e-newsletters should contain some type of soft sell sales approach. It is important to not make the sales pitch blatant as this may result in the e-newsletter being considered spam. Finally, the e-newsletter should contain a call to action urging the readers to either make a purchase or visit your website for more information.

Regardless of the method of email marketing you opt to utilize, one of the most important strategies is to evaluate the effectiveness of your email marketing on a regular basis. This is critical because elements of your email marketing campaign which are not working should be weeded out. Likewise elements of your marketing campaign which are enjoying a high degree of success should be utilized more often. For example if you notice there is a spike in sales or website traffic each time you issue an e-newsletter, it might be worthwhile to begin issuing e-newsletters more often. This type of evaluation and feedback can turn a moderate success into a huge success.

Creating Email Lists for Marketing Campaigns

If you plan to do some Internet marketing to promote your business endeavor, you should seriously consider email marketing as at least one tier of your Internet marketing campaign. Many business owners shy away from email marketing because they believe all email marketing campaigns are purely spam.

However, this is not true and not partaking in this type of marketing can cause your business to lose out on a great deal of business. By not appealing to potential customers via email, your business may lose a great deal of business to competitors who are using email marketing campaigns to reach customers around the world. However, the first step of an email marketing campaign should be creating an email distribution list. This article will discuss some popular options for doing this and should help to the reader to learn more about what is acceptable and what is not when it comes to email marketing.

Once you have made the decision to start using email marketing to promote your business you are likely facing the dilemma of compiling an email distribution list. This is essentially a list of email addresses to which you will email your advertising and promotional materials. One common way to gain a list of email addresses is to purchase a list from distributors. However, this method is not very effective at all and we do not recommend it. The problem with purchasing an email list if you have no way of knowing whether or not the members of the list would have any interest at all in your products or services. This is very important because while you want to reach a large audience with your email marketing you also want this audience to be members of your overall target audience.

When you purchase an email list you may be sending your email messages to some users who might be interested but this is largely coincidental and is not likely to be well received because the message was not solicited.

Internet users are very quick to delete materials they believe to be spam without even opening or reading the emails. In fact some Internet service providers include spam filters which may automatically delete your emails if your messages are deemed to be spam. These filters run complex algorithms on the subject heading and content of the message to determine whether or not it is spam and are quite adept at weeding out spam. Therefore you run the risk of having your email marketing effort turn out to be a complete waste if the majority of recipients never even read or receive the message.

A far better way to create an email distribution list for your email marketing campaign is to ask current customers as well as interested potential customers to register with your website to receive additional information and periodic updates about your products and services as well as other information which might be of interest to them. This provides you with a database of email addresses from current customers as well as potential customers who have a genuine interest in your products and services and who are interested in learning more about these products and services.

Once you have a list of interested customers or potential customers you can send emails or create e-newsletter for distribution to the members of your email list. These documents should contain a wealth of valuable information as well as a soft sell pitch for your products and services. This information will be valued by the readers and may help to persuade them to try your products and services.

You might also want to include useful links to either your website as well as other websites which may be of interest to your readers. Your content should also contain a portion which urges the reader to take a specific action such as making a purchase or at least investigating a product further.
