Protecting Your Commissions

Thieves are a problem out in the brick and mortar world is for business owners and thieves are a concern for cyber space business owners. Out in the brick and mortar world, thieves will take money and merchandise and it isn’t any different online. The real world merchants use locks and alarms to deter thieves. Internet business owners need to use anti-theft software to protect their commissions. Here are some things you can do to protect yourself and your commissions:

1. Use Meta Refresh: A meta refresh is a simple bit of HTML code which automatically redirects your visitor to another page (your affiliate URL). It provides a neat way of presenting affiliate links in newsletters. It probably helps reduce commission bypassing and commission hijacking. A big advantage of using meta refreshes is that if merchants change their affiliate links, you can change links on dozens of pages quickly and easily by altering only one file.

One problem is that some search engines don’t like meta refreshes because they’re frequently used for unsavory purposes. So if you use this technique, use it with caution.

2. Use a URL redirection service. You can use free services or buy a unique domain name for each affiliate program you join. URL redirection makes affiliate links less obvious, so this will reduce some commission thefts.

3. Use a web-based ad tracking service. The ad tracking link initially hides the affiliate link, reducing thefts.

4. Use an ad tracking script. Good ad tracking scripts hide the affiliate link as well as being useful for tracking. It has the advantage that it doesn’t promote someone else’s domain.

5. Use JavaScript redirect. Because this initially hides the affiliate link, it should reduce commission thefts.

Be aware that thievery is a problem for online businesses and take the necessary steps to protect your commissions.

Sounds like Spam to Me – When Splogs are Disguised as Blogs

Blogging Comments Off

Splog are spam blogs, which serve a similar function as spam e-mails. They are basically advertising that a person does not really want, and is an abuse of the free blogging system.

Some examples of splogging include placing text that does not make any sense on a page, or the use of repetitive text that is irrelevant to the blog itself. This usually occurs in the comment section of a blog, but can also occur within a blog entry itself.

What these blog entries do is attempt to take advantage of using search terms in order to increase their page rank. However, the search terms used to make these splogs come up often have nothing to do with the blog, which really is an advertisement.

These advertisements are different than regular blogs because they are not meant to be useful for the reader. Instead, they are promoting a product or service, and are looking for buyers. In addition, these blogs usually contain a heavy amount of links that lead to all one place, or one page.

Another characteristic of a splog is that they usually contain quite a few affiliate links, and even stolen content from other websites. Most splogs are considered not very original pieces of work, and they often do more to annoy visitors looking for useful information than anything else.

The reason why splogging is considered to be so unethical is because it not only annoys visitors but it also clogs search engines. It takes the place that otherwise relevant content would take. In addition, splogging takes advantage of the fact that people can post comments with links on sites.

In fact, the history of splogging took place when sploggers filled in guest books on sites with links, and often-nonsensical comments. For instance, someone who would place a spam blog comment would add “nice site” and then would add a link. Along with that the visitor would then type in key words of a spammed link.

Splogging has, unfortunately, become the new spamming. Over 8% of blogs tracked by Tecnnorati are proven to be spam blogs. Another source says that 34,000 blogs are “hosted” on Google’s free Blogspot. These are hurting the credibility of Google. However, Google is doing something to stop it.

Google is encouraging those who notice any suspicious spam blogging on Blogspot to report it.

Possible solutions for eliminating spam blogs include blocking certain key words, such as those which target many popular pharmaceuticals or casino names. Another way to control spam blogging is to set up an RSS feed which will track certain key word searches, such as those for Viagra, or similar.

Another option for blog site owners to help control spam blogging is to turn off comments, or have people register in order to make comments. This will make monitoring of comments must easier.

Another method used to help prevent splogging is the use of a system that tracks IP addresses. It will help narrow down entries that took either too long or too short of a time to post on blog sites. It will also help identify spammers who use fake IP addresses to conceal their identities.

Splogging is another word for ineffective advertising. Most people do not go to blog sites to buy things. Instead, they go to blogging sites to read the latest news, opinions, or debate. They do not go to look for sites filled with loads of irrelevant advertising.

It is not wrong to leave a comment or two on a site that is relevant to the original blog. However, this should even be done with caution. In addition, usually only leaving one or two links under a comment is appropriate and not a huge number of them.

Splogging is considered as unethical as e-mail spam. In order to ensure that you are within the parameters when you blog you may want to read other articles like this to learn more about it.

When you manage a blog you will want to watch out for this so it doesn’t happen to you. It is important that you monitor all your comments carefully. In addition, you may want to consider approving all posts before you allow them to be displayed.

If you want to allow people to comment freely on your blog site then you may want to at least adjust your blog settings so that you are automatically notified when a new blog entry is posted. This is another way to control the type of traffic that visits your site, and a way to help block those who abuse the free blogging system.

Getting Help with Your Email Marketing Campaign

Savvy business owners realize the importance of email marketing even if they do not know how to run an effective email marketing campaign. Simply stated this means a business owner may realize it is imperative for him to run an email marketing campaign to help him meet the needs and expectations of his target audience but he may not know how to orchestrate an email marketing campaign which is truly effective. Fortunately for these business owners they do not have to know a great deal about email marketing because there are plenty of Internet marketing consultants who can assist them in planning and running an effective email marketing campaign. This article will provide some tips for finding a consultant to assist you in orchestrating an email marketing campaign.

One of the most important criteria in seeking a consultant to assist you with our email marketing campaign is experience. Specifically it is experience which has resulted in past success. This is important because one of the best indicators of how well a consultant will perform for you is how well they performed in the past. This means if a consultant was able to help a variety of past clients to attain their goals through email marketing, the consultant will likely be able to assist you in the same way.

Another important criterion when hiring a consultant to assist you with your email marketing campaign is the opinions of past clients. Before committing to work with a particular consultant you should request references from past clients. You should not only request these references but also contact each of the past clients provided and question them about their experiences with the consultant. It is important to keep in mind the consultant will likely only provide reference he is confident will offer a positive opinion of his services. However, you can still learn a great deal about the consultant’s style, personality and techniques through these references. This is important because the consultant’s personality as well as his skill and abilities is also very important.

If you do not get along with the consultant and have difficulty talking to him, it can be difficult to work with him. Additionally, it might be hard for you to meet your business related goals because you are likely not providing the consultant with enough information or offering feedback which could help him to adjust his strategies to better meet your expectations. While it is true that skill, knowledge and ability are all important sometimes none of these matter if personality conflicts prevent you and the consultant from communicating adequately. Therefore your personal opinion of the consultant should always be carefully considered before making hiring a consultant.

Although consulting references is a good idea, you should also consider contacting the Better Business Bureau (BBB) as well and also seeking out independent reviews of the consultant you are considering hiring to assist you in your email marketing campaign. The BBB can provide you with a great deal of information regarding the past performance of the consultant. If the consultant has been in business for a number of years and does not have any unresolved complaints with the BBB, this is a good indication the consultant performs adequately and treats clients fairly. Conversely a consultant with a number of unresolved complaints against him is not likely going to be a good choice. Similarly a consultant who has a number of independent reviews raving about the quality of his service is likely a good choice to assist you in your email marketing campaign while a consultant who has a number of poor reviews on the Internet is not really a good choice for assisting you with your email marketing campaign. Likewise, you can assume if past clients were not happy with the services he provided, you will likely also not be happy with these services.

Banish Work at Home Burnout – Tips to Keep You Going

Work from home Comments Off

Burnout is the byproduct of long hours, hard work, little appreciation, and more and more work dumped on you at the most inopportune times. It can be found in any job, any career field, and in almost any work situation. It is not surprising then that even those who appear to be living the American Dream, namely working from home complete with fuzzy slippers on their feet, and favorite coffee mugs by sides, still suffer from work at home burnout. Fortunately there are some things you can do to banish the work at home burnout, which may be easier to accomplish since you are your own boss.

Here are some tried and true tips to keep you going:

Use the proper equipment. For example, if you are freelance writer and you are required to submit your writing in a certain format, it is wise to own the software that will permit you to complete the assignment thusly; however, if your computer was new when Bill Gates first took the computing world by storm, and you need to pre-write everything on old software and then take it to a friend’s house to convert it into the correct format just so that you can send it on, you will most likely get burned out on that process rather quickly. So make sure that you have the adequate tools you need to do the work. Similarly, if you will be working a large amount of time at your computer, but you do not have a computer desk and instead sit hunched over the keyboard and suffer from back pain for the rest of the evening, you will once again burn out much quicker than if you have ergonomically correct equipment.

Set your work hours and stick to them. Sure, it is tempting to take Fluffy for a walk in the woods, the kids to the water park, and do a million household chores before sitting down and doing your work, but remember that you cannot do it all. No matter what clever advertisers try to sell you, the answer is “no” – you cannot have it all and you cannot do it all. The notion of super-mom or super-dad is a figment of the imagination that has nothing to do with reality. If you work from home, you will need to set your hours and stick to them. This means negotiating with your family, friends, and yourself. For example, if you are working part-time from home, and require four hours of work every day to keep up with your responsibilities, it is up to you to decide if you want to do these four hours in one sitting, or divide them up into two two-hour blocks. No matter what works best for you, make a plan and stick to it.

Do something you like, rather than something you endure. Opening that home daycare may have sounded like a great idea at the time, but if you suddenly find that you dread the idea of having a house full of screaming children you will need to think about doing something else with your time. There is no shame in trying out a business only to find later that it does not suit you.

Once your office hours are done, do not fall into the trap of working longer. It is easy to do, but it will not net you as much success as you hope. As a matter of fact, you will find yourself burning out even quicker than if you had just stuck to your schedule.

Reward yourself and take a day off. Look at the work you need to accomplish and try to apportion it so that you can take a day off here and there. If you have to work every day in order to meet your goals and expectations, you might need to realign them with real life. You still want to have a social life, a family life, and just some me-time that does not require you to do work.

It is easy to see why home workers suffer from burnout just like their counterparts that drive to an office or other business location every day. Yet it is just as easily seen that with a little bit of planning, and some restructuring of your workday, you will be able to banish the work at home burnout and keep going!

How the Worldwide Web empowers producers of video content

Internet Marketing Articles Comments Off

The cost of creating video products has come down enormously in the last few years. Internet technologies like video podcasting let you sell downloadable content without the need to produce your own cassettes, CDs, or DVDs, and without the need to maintain an expensive inventory. The Internet has made it possible for anyone with a computer, a few simple tools, and a broadband connection to be a creator and broadcaster of video products.

The best thing about the creation of video products in today’s market is that you don’t need a huge capital investment to get started. You can produce high-quality video products with a consumer-level camcorder. And if the only recording device you own is your new Bluetooth video phone, you can get started with that.

There’s a growing online market for video products
There will always be a healthy online market for instructional and inspirational video products. It’s a mistake to think that individuals cannot compete with big media corporations in the areas of production, distribution, and marketing of video products-the audience for Internet video is growing so fast that there simply isn’t enough material online to satisfy the tremendous demand. The explosion of video sharing sites like YouTube is evidence of how fast the market is growing. In fact, amateur producers of video content already share space on YouTube with professional content from media giants like CBS and BBC.

Many of these large corporations hesitate to put their expensive resources to work on small projects that require highly specialized knowledge. That’s where you come in-if you can identify an area where you are the right person to provide informational content to a niche market, you will find customers for your video product on the Internet.

Add something of value to your customers’ lives
What you need to understand is this: Your profit depends on producing valuable information-not on the overall viewing experience, as is the case with feature-length films and commercial television productions. Your customers won’t care about your packaging if you deliver high-quality content. In fact, delivering video content on the Internet even lets you do away with the packaging completely. This allows you to focus all your energy on creating and marketing the best product possible. Your customers will appreciate the added value in your video products that your increased focus brings.

If your goal is to produce the best video ever made on the subject of cabinet-making or gardening, for instance, you can compete with any studio in the world. People will do almost anything to find meaning and rise above the limits of their ordinary lives. Connect with your viewers on a human level, give them insights for getting more out of a career or a hobby, and they will come back to your Internet site often.

If you choose your topic well and approach it with passion and focus, you can achieve a level of sales that lets you turn video production into the core of your Internet marketing efforts.

This Isn’t Internet Marketing

As with all innovations, we soon become wrapped up in the newness, the easy access, and the excitement we feel with something that has not existed for us before now. Internet marketing is no exception. Online marketing does have its pitfalls in spite of all the good things it offers. We often put more store in something new than it is really worth. Below are some of the things that internet market lacks.

Replacing the traditional form of buying and selling is not going to happen with internet marketing. Pretend for a minute that you are looking for a new car. You go online, look through picture after picture and find one you like and can afford. That’s where you stop. You can’t touch that car, nor can you take a test drive. You have only a small idea of what the car will be like when you drive it. Are you going to pay potentially thousands of dollars for that car, or will you go to a local car lot instead, where you can get a much better idea of what you’re buying? This is a major limitation to internet marketing for many items.

Another frustrating fact of buying online is dealing with lost connections and websites being down. You can’t do what you set out to do. You end up having to wait or take a drive to somewhere that has what you need. Shopping online isn’t always doable.

You aren’t going to make tons of money in little or not time on the internet. Granted, a very small number of people have been lucky enough to develop a money-making endeavor, but these are the exception to the rule. There are a larger number who have failed miserably at online businesses. Most of the business realities of the brick and mortar world still apply to the virtual world, you still will have to put in endless hours and effort to make it succeed.

Internet marketing, finally, is not static. As the world itself changes and grows, so will the world of internet marketing. Technology will change and the government will make more laws to control what happens online. You can’t count on what is today to be around in its present form ten years from now.

Resale Rights in General

Internet Marketing Articles Comments Off
AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Resale rights are AWESOME! They are one of the best things to ever happen to Internet
marketing and thousands of people have made a fortune or at least a good living from
resale rights.

There are two basic ways to make money with resale rights:

• You can either buy resale rights to someone else’s product which will give you the right to
sell it to the end user and keep 100% of the profits.
• Or, you can sell resale rights to other people who want to have rights to sell a product
and keep 100% of the profits.

And that is the two basic ways you can make money with resale rights. So what’s so
awesome about that?

First of all, if you don’t have time to create your own products, you have no experience,
you are lazy, or you simply want to get started with making money on the internet as soon
as humanly possible, you can simply buy resale rights to a product (which will usually
come with a ready made sales letter and graphics), upload the product to the Internet and
BAM! You’ve got your own online business!

Basically, buying resale rights allows a person to start their own online business in under a
day … in fact, it can take as little as an hour!

Ok, so with resale rights one can start an online business almost instantly. But that is just
one of the many reasons resale rights are so awesome. I’ve covered making money by
buying resale rights, but what about selling them?

Believe it or not, selling resale rights can be even more profitable than buying them! Here’s
why…

First of all, because resale rights are the absolute easiest and fastest way to start an
online business, A LOT of people are buying resale rights. In fact, most people that buy
resale rights usually buy resale rights to more than one product. And why not?

Instead of buying resale rights to just one product and setting up one online business, why
not buy a whole bunch and set up a lot of businesses? And that is exactly what a lot of
people that buy resale rights do.

Ok, so resale rights are HOT and a lot of people are looking to buy them. So that’s one
reason to start selling resale rights. But in my opinion, the main reason why selling resale
rights is so darn great is because of the price you can sell them at.

You can sell resale rights for anywhere from just $10 to over $1,000! So it allows you to
have a high priced item that is actually a hot seller.

And that is a great way to make a lot of money. All the big names in Internet Marketing
make big bucks selling high ticket items. $97 eBooks, $197 software, and even $997 DVD
courses. And unless you are already an expert you probably don’t have the experience
and knowledge to create such high priced products.

But with resale rights you can!

Because when you sell resale rights, you are not selling an eBook or course. You are not
teaching people how to do something, no, what you are doing is actually selling a business
that people can actually start making money with!

And in most cases, giving somebody a business they can actually make money with is a
lot more valuable than simply telling them how to create it themselves. Plus, it’s a hell of a
lot more appealing as well

Guaranteed To Increase Sales!

Entrepreneur tips Comments Off

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

As a Publishing entrepreneur and by doing publicity for my clients, I’ve spent years studying the art of selling. The techniques that follow aren’t difficult to learn, but they require discipline and practice.

Your most important skill as a business owner is your salesmanship. Having the best product or service means nothing if you can’t get anyone to buy it, so to ensure the success of your business you must develop the ability to generate revenue – “salesman-ship”.

Here is a brief outline of 13 techniques I’ve developed for increasing sales:

1. USE THE PHONE –Absolutely the cheapest, most effective, and efficient way to find customers is by phone. Yes, “cold-calling”. Write out a script for this before you call, so you don’t sound vague. Introduce yourself, your company, the purpose of the call, and give a brief “benefit” of your product/service to the client. ”What will you do for his/her business?” Be brief, to the point, and have 10 possible objections you might get, answered in your script. This way you’re prepared for the customary “brush-off.” Always try to get a firm commitment to a meeting. This call is not to “sell” the client, it’s to get a face-to-face meeting to establish credibility – and then to sell him/her. Would you buy from a voice on the phone? No. You want to see the vendor and listen to his offer.

2. SHOUT IT FROM THE MOUNTAIN TOP – You should always be looking for new customer, and I’ve found that giving seminars, teaching, guest speaking at trade shows and organizations, or writing an article for your trade magazine or business journal establishes you as an “expert” in your field. People like to buy from experts because it reduces their fear of making a bad decision. Everyone can overcome their fear of public speaking, so find the method that works best for you and do it. As a desperate step, join a Toastmaster’s group near you or take a night course at a nearby Adult School.

3. ASK QUESTIONS – Most salespeople think that the first meeting with the prospect is the only chance to make a sale. WRONG! Before you go into your “pitch” ask questions, take notes, what are your prospects goals, challenges, etc. Helping a prospect solve a business problem creates a “win-win” relationship and closes more sales than you think.

4. AVOID “PRODUCT DUMPING” – Telling your prospect all about your product/service before you know their needs is a mistake made by 95% of salespeople. This is an inefficient selling method and upon reflection, your client will lose faith in you. I’ve met with clients on several occasions and left them with some advice and good feelings, but no sale and that’s alright. Because in the future I’m apt to get “word of mouth” referrals from them, which will outweigh what I might have made if I’d simply “sold” them a service that wasn’t an answer to their problem. Remember – nothing adds more to your credibility than a referral from a satisfied prospect.

5. KNOW YOUR NUMBERS – Selling is a numbers game, and you need to learn your “selling ratios.” How many prospecting calls do you need to get a meeting, and how many meetings to get a sale. This allows you to manage your cash flow by forecasting your sales. It also tells you how many calls are needed to increase your sales revenue.

In next week’s column we’ll continue with the 13 tips which will cover Qualifying Your Prospect and Gaining Trust to name just a few. Happy selling!

Smart Ideas on Making your Blog – SEO Style

Blogging Comments Off
AddThis Social Bookmark Button

A successful Blog requires the same Internet techniques as a successful website. Of course this means traffic, visitors to your Blog. The number one requirement for optimal web traffic is SEO, search engine optimization. If you are new to Internet marketing, you need to learn how to optimize your Blog for search engines to produce results. Most people stumble upon Blogs when doing a search for something. If you use these smart ideas on making your Blog- SEO style, you will attract more visitors that are directed from search engine results.

It is important to experiment with different techniques on your own Blog. Blogs market to different visitors and you might need to take some time to find what works best for your niche. Note what has the best results and stay with it. Change the other things around a bit until you get the results out of them that you want. Many experts say sticking with simple content is the best way to optimize your Blog. Simplicity helps in classifying your niche. Choose one quality content topic and make it your base. From there you can use variations of the topic in order to keep everything going. This is important because the main or first page of your Blog is basically your sales page. Web surfers do not have time to filter through too much content.

If you are trying to get more of a presence on search engines, be sure that you have something to show. The more content you have, the more likely you are to show up on a search engine. Remember, this does not mean all on your main page. Bigger sites always do better than smaller sites. Search engines will see your site in a different manner, depending on how much content you have. The more content you have, the more there is a chance there will be that someone will stumble onto your site. You can submit your site to each search engine on your own. Google provides a very friendly submission process that also allows the webmaster the ability to track the success and optimization of each page. Submit your site’s URL to every search engine and ask to be put into the index. This can take a while, but if they do list you in the index, you will see a larger increase in traffic. Use caution when using a service that asks for money in exchange for getting your sites into search engines. These can be a little misleading at times. There are ways to do this without needing to pay anyone at all.

Keywords are one of the most valuable tools for SEO. Identify the most popular keywords that are being searched. Try to find those that are close to your Blog content. When you do this, you have an edge over the competition. When you know exactly what the people are looking for, you can give them just that. Once you have a list of keywords, simply create articles that use these keywords. By creating these articles, you are putting yourself out there to be found. Use caution not to overload your site with keyword content and articles, as some search engines are becoming ever more savvy on deciphering some sites that are simply “empty” content.

The key factor that makes Blogging different from website content is the frequency of your post updates. If you really want the best optimization, you should update it daily at the least. The more you update it, the more often search engines will index your Blog. Adding new information is the best way to update your Blog. Just be sure that when you do update, it is quality content. You should always remember that content can have a purpose, but it should always be quality content. Remember that your articles or Blog entries do not need to be, in fact should not be, long. These can be quick quality updates. Another way to provide easy content is introducing another writer’s article. Plenty of free article directories provide keyword articles on a variety of subjects.

Blogging requires dedication for success. Use these smart ideas on making your Blog SEO style and get the most from search engines. The more you post and use these tips, the more results you will see. Use these ideas consistently and watch your results rise today!

Google Adsense: How Much Money You Can Make and URL Channels Explanation

Adsense Comments Off

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

How Much Money Can I Make With Google Adsense?

How much do you want to make? How hard do you want to work? And how much time do you want to spend working the Google Adsense program?

These are the questions you must ask yourself in order to answer that question.

Look at it this way: how many business opportunities come your way where the only requirement is hard work and the time it takes to work hard? Not many. Almost any business venture requires some kind of start-up money.

If your total earnings is showing 0.00 after a week, not to worry. Keep reading and learning and working. If however, you’re still showing 0.00 after a month, it may be time to implement some of those optimization tips you’ll find on the Google Adsense Support Site. Play around with the placement of the ads on your site. Consider changing the colors. Look again at the content. Is it interesting?

As with any other business, with the Google Adsense program, the sky is the limit. Work hard. Work smart. Have fun. After all, you’re the boss.

What Are URL Channels and How to Organize Them in Google Adsense

URL Channels allow you to view detailed information about the performance of your Adsense for Content pages.

Suppose you have a blog at writingup.com and you also have a blog at bloggerparty.com. It might be interesting and profitable to track which one is getting more clicks. Log in to your Adsense account and click on Adsense for Content. Scroll down until you see Channels and click on manage channels. You may need to scroll up when the next page loads. Under Manage URL Channels you would type writingup.com and click on Create New Channel.

You will immediately see writingup.com in the Active URL Channels dialogue box Now type in bloggerparty.com in the same channel text box and again click on Create New Channel. You now have two channels and you will be able to track your progress on each channel. You can view channel reports from the Advanced Report page under the Reports tab. Choose Adsense for Content, choose the date range and then select the Channels Data radio button. Choose any number of active channels by holding down the CTRL key. Next click on Display Report. It’s as easy as that.
