How to Plan an Email Campaign In 6 Simple Steps

Planning an email campaign is not quite as tough as eating an elephant, but the process is very similar.

The way to complete any large task has essentially the same answer, “One step at a time.” Taken all-at-once it may be overwhelming. Break it down into its elements, into small bite-sized pieces, and those really don’t look formidable in any way.

The individual steps can each be relatively simple, something that’s no big problem, that you can do. And when you’ve completed all the steps, you suddenly realize that you’ve come all the way from the beginning to the end of completing the project! It is exactly the same with how to plan an email campaign.. Here then is the way you approach the elephantine task of planning an email campaign, in 6 simple steps.

Step 1.
Determine how long you want the email to be.

With this you need to decide if you want to include full articles in the email or just teaser paragraphs and links to your web site.. If shorter is better, then linking to your web site is the best way to go. Keep in mind what your readers prefer. Some may want to have the whole article in the email. This is something you may want to test.

Step 2.
Decide how often you want to send email.

This step will be important because if you send email too frequently, your subscribers may decide to opt out of your list. However, if you send email too infrequently you run the risk of subscribers forgetting they ever signed up. In general it is better to send too few email than send too many. The answer really lies with the quality of the content of the email. If the content is valued by the subscriber, then they will not complain about frequent email.

Step 3.
Determine the best time to send email.

This will depend upon your subscribers and will require some testing and time to determine. Generally, email for business seem to get the best open rates on Tuesday through Thursday, between 10 am and 2 pm. But, this can vary with different types of subscribers.

Step 4.
Generating an email list.

This involves setting up opt in forms on your web site and/or if you are a retail type establishment you can have customers sign up for your list at your place of business. To get the best results you need to offer an incentive in exchange for the customers email. This can take the form of free reports, white papers or coupons and discounts.

Step 5.
Avoid email being filtered.

A key point you will want to remember here will be there is no way to guarantee that all of your email can avoid being filtered. The best approach is to avoid using common spam words such as “free” and avoid using “ALL CAPS”. Many of the email services offer email testing services were you can determine if your content has a problem. then you can make changes before sending out the email.

Step 6.
Writing quality content.

This is a very important step. You always want to be giving your readers something of quality. That is why they subscribed to your list. If readers do not find value with the content of your email they may not opt out, but they will stop opening it. Either way you are not communicating with your customers.

Email marketing is an art. You need to keep providing enough quality content to keep your subscribers opening your email. Then along the way you can put in a sales pitch and they will be more likely to respond.

Try This Online Affiliate Marketing Money Making Idea

There are many ways to earn money online but one of the simplest ways is to use affiliate marketing. One of the big advantages of affiliate marketing is that it is not necessary for a person to own a unique product. The affiliate marketer can make money, essentially a commission, by recommending and selling other peoples’ products.

There are a number of different affiliate marketing strategies, but here is a good specific strategy that is relatively simple yet utilizes several current sophisticated features. The first step is to pick a niche in which there are numerous information products, such as ebooks, e-courses, or reports, available. A good idea is to pick a popular niche of personal interest and then to check the categories in the Marketplace of Clickbank.com, one of the top information product resources for affiliate marketers. Select a few products in the niche to promote and follow the steps to become an affiliate of each of the products and to gain access to the author’s affiliate tools, emails, images, and banners.

Next, use a keyword research tool, such as the highly regarded tool offered freely by Google, to find some ideas for a website domain name. Then, purchase a domain name from one of the many domain name registrars and select an affordable web host that allows easy installation of a WordPress blog.

The reason to use WordPress is that WordPress offers a huge variety of themes and functionality, and the blog platform will allow one to write interesting reviews and articles. Additionally, there are article directories and private label article sources that offer good articles that can be freely included on the blog site.

Now, select an autoresponder system from among the numerous reasonably priced autoresponders that are available. This step will provide the system for creating a series of emails to be sent to prospective customers and to allow follow up marketing to those valuable prospects.

Next, using the tools provided by the autoresponder company, create an opt-in box that will enable the collection of email addresses from prospective customers. Offer the customer a free e-course or series of reports that will provide free and useful information to the prospect. Research private label rights ebooks in the chosen niche online and use one to create a multi-part email series that can be loaded into the autoresponder and sent to the prospect at regular intervals. The benefit of this step is that in addition to getting the useful information the prospect can also receive a short promotion about an appropriate affiliate product that may interest them.

Lastly, open an account with Facebook and create a business page. The business page should reflect the blog site’s domain name. This Facebook page can then be used to offer bits of information, advice, pictures, and fun personal notices. The page can also direct the reader to the main blog site where larger articles and product reviews can be found, along with the opt-in box and affiliate product offers.

One of the great things about this specific affiliate marketing strategy is that once the pieces are in place the strategy can be easily repeated to create affiliate marketing opportunities in other niches.

List Building

As an affiliate marketer there are two things that you want more than anything else, one is traffic and the other is sales. Though sales will be really limited without traffic, it is possible to have traffic, yet no sales, which can be totally frustrating. Why does this happen? There could be a few reasons.

First, you may have selected a market in which people are strictly looking for free information, never intending to pull out their wallets. Did you do sufficient market research up front to know that people are buying what you are selling? You may have found keywords that have a fair volume of traffic with low competition and thought you had a goldmine, when in reality, the competition is low because those keywords are not ‘buying’ keywords.

Second, the traffic you are bringing to your site might not be targeted and therefore they are not interested in what you have to sell. Depending on the method you are using to drive people to your site, you may be hosting the wrong folk! Ensure the effort you are putting in to bring people to your site, is focused toward the target audience who will truly be interested in what you have to offer.

Third, your site and/or sales page may be lacking. If the product or service you are offering is truly in demand and you have targeted traffic coming to your site but you are not making sales you need to start doing some split-testing on the copy of your site and/or the look of your site. Solicit input from others if need be, as to what they like or don’t like and start making some changes.

One other MAJOR factor to consider is this: are you capturing the name and email address of your visitors? Why you ask? Well the truth is that the percentage of sales in affiliate marketing, from first-time visitors is very low. So if your Website is designed in such a way that you direct your traffic to an affiliate link without first capturing their contact info, they will click on the link, check out the product or service and very likely just continue surfing.

However, if you get them to subscribe to your list and then send them to your affiliate offer, you then have a means of staying in contact with them, sending them additional information as well as links to the affiliate products or services you are promoting. If you send out valuable information, you will start to build a rapport with your subscribers and the more they feel they can trust you, the more likely they are to buy what you’re selling.

So, if the answer to, “Who’s on your list?” is ‘nobody’, and you are serious about building a business then invest some money in an autoresponder service and start building what is sure to become, the lifeline of your business – your list.

Blog Commenting Etiquette

Blogging No Comments »

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Many experienced bloggers will tell you there is code of conduct for blog commenting. There are some unwritten rules that both the blogger and the commenter should follow. If you’re new to blogging, new to commenting, or not getting the results you’d like, then read on.

For Commenters:

If the site owner has a commenting guidelines page, quickly read it first.

Start off using the blogger’s name in your reply to their article. That way he/she will know for sure you are a real person and not a spambot.

Do not add any links to your musings. This is considered bad form unless the site owner has indicated it is ok. More likely than not, live links in the body will cause it to land in the spam folder anyway.

Add value or don’t bother. “Awesome post, dude! Thanks!” does nothing and makes it look suspiciously like you’re trying to get a Do Follow link back to your site. The one exception to adding something to the conversation is when you want to give words of encouragement or congratulate them on a goal reached.

You know where it says to put your name? Put your name there. Your name is not GardenSuppliesForAll. Be a real person first, then if the site has the KeywordLuv plugin, you can add your keywords where it asks for them. Then your name would show up as Paul @GardenSupplies.

Make sure your own blog has catchy titled posts. That way when you comment on a site that uses the ComLuv plugin it will show the title of your last post with a live link to it. The more interesting the title, the more click-throughs you will get.

This isn’t necessary, but if you want to build a relationship with the blog owner, tweet their post. Many blogs have this button front and center and it’s just a matter of pushing it. Plus it’s good karma.

For Bloggers:

Some may not agree, but you should answer all comments. If someone has taken the time to read and answer with their thoughts, the least you could do is respond. Why? Common courtesy for one, and the fact that you will score points with your readers. Don’t think for one minute that the commenter won’t come back for another visit to see if you’ve responded. Everyone likes to be acknowledged and you might make a new friend or business partner.

This one is going the extra mile – hop over to the other person’s site, read what they have to say, and leave a comment. You never know what gems you might pick up along the way and you’ll be building some strong business relationships.

One of the premises behind blogging is that it’s a means of conversing. That means you should welcome feedback on what you wrote and expect some to disagree with you. Be polite and professional.

It’s your weblog, it’s your rules, but play fair. Yes, you have the right to hit the delete button if things get out of hand.

Don’t make it hard on your visitors. The more steps you make them go through to leave a comment, the less eager they will be to do so. Don’t make them create a password and sign in to “speak” to you. A simple captcha word or a “click here if you’re not a spammer” will suffice.

Commenting on what others have blogged about has many benefits. Your words can create a lasting impression, and if it’s a good impression you will get traffic. If you show yourself to be knowledgeable on a subject, your new traffic will become return readers and buyers. Being courteous to your readers helps build relationships that turn into advantageous partnerships or business opportunities.

Outsource Your Writing – Use a Ghostwriter

For those who want to earn a bit of extra cash, writing a report or an ebook that gives valuable information about a hobby or passion others share, or solves a problem some people might have, is one of the recommended paths for would-be internet marketers.

But what if you do not have time or just cannot write? Maybe you do not feel confident enough; maybe there is a language barrier or maybe you just prefer not to. Well, if you fit into any of these categories, there is an answer and that is to use a ghostwriter.

A ghostwriter is someone who will write for you, even research for you if you wish; will write ebooks, articles, blog posts, press releases or even your family history. Whatever you want written, there is someone willing to ghostwrite it for you.

When the writing is finished and approved, you own the copyright to the work just as if you had written it yourself. The writer gets a guaranteed fee for their effort, but you have the task of using the work to make money and taking the risk of getting little or no return, so it seems to be a fair arrangement.

So how do you go about finding a ghostwriter?

Well, you could just Google “ghostwriter wanted” and sift through all the results, but an easier way to get started is to visit one of the existing online marketplaces for people wanting such work. Some of the most common are listed below:

www.elance.com
www.vworker.com
www.guru.com
www.odesk.com
www.freelancer.com
www.scriptlance.com

What you do on these sites is list your proposal and people looking for work will put in an offer for your job.

If you are not familiar with hiring in this manner, go to some of the sites listed above and have a look around, get the feel of the site, look at some of the proposals and the bids on them.

Start with the search bar at the top of nearly all these sites. If there is no search field, there will always be two links, one for those looking to hire workers or contractors and another for people who want work and list themselves for hire.

If you type in, say “ghost writer, ebook” in the search field, it should bring up current jobs similar to what you want.

On some sites you may have to register before you can see the full details but registration is free and you only need to supply basic information to get started.

Open up some of the jobs that are listed, looking at the qualifications and experience of those bidding. Notice the price range in that site for the type of work you want done for yourself. Keep some notes of what you find on each site, what you like and dislike. That will make it easier for you to decide later which one is the best fit for you.

It is up to you, as a hirer, to decide how much your budget allows you to spend. Paying more for an experienced writer with good feedback should be a good investment, however if your budget is limited, you may want to select someone with less experience; they could still do excellent work, but because they do not have much feedback, may be willing to work for a lower price until they get established and have a good portfolio.

Expect to pay higher prices on Elance than on oDesk, for example. There are many workers who have an excellent education living in countries where work choices are limited bidding for jobs at prices that may seem very low. A low offer does not necessarily mean a poor quality job, on the contrary they may produce an excellent result. It is all about choice; yours and theirs.

Your first task will be to write your proposal. If you have not already done so, it is a good idea to search for other similar proposals to see what has been asked for in those ads, such as job description, skills and experience requirements, time to completion and whether you want a fixed or an hourly rate. Go to the Help section too, as you can get some good hints there. You will need to be clear in your own mind what you want, to be able to write a good proposal.

Once your ad is ready to list, check with the Help or FAQ to see what the site requirements for listings are. Many have instructions that walk you step by step through the whole process.

When you list, you need to decide how long you want to let your ad run; a shorter time will usually attract fewer offers but will allow you to get started more quickly, so it is a bit of a trade-off.

Some sites will let you invite applicants to bid on your proposal so if you found any who appealed to you in your research, invite them to make an offer.

Bid prices can sometimes vary widely; a project on scriptlance.com at present had bids ranging for $10 with immediate delivery to $7,000 in ten days, but this seems a bit unusual and is perhaps an indication that there is a misunderstanding about what is required. More often the range will be narrower, so your choice is made more on what you read in the applicant’s offer and in their bio than on price.

Before you make a decision, check out all you can find about the individual contractors who make an offer. Look at their past projects and any feedback from it, their experience, qualifications and areas of interest as well as the bid price. Sometimes you can see how much they have earned on previous contracts and that can be very helpful.

Take your time in selecting a candidate. If someone interests you and you want more information, send them a message to clarify before you accept the bid.

Once the selection is made, agree on milestones such as when you want to see the first draft, the final draft and any revisions completed. Many of the sites listed above use escrow funding, meaning you pay all or part of the fee in advance into a trust fund from where the money is paid to the worker as milestones are reached. oDesk is one site that currently does not require this, payments are made as work is done unless an agreement is reached beforehand.

It is essential for successful ghostwriting that you have good clear communication with your outsourcer. If you can develop a relationship where there is mutual trust and understanding, the whole process can be very rewarding for both parties.

Did you know that there is such a thing as content articles that people put in their blogs to help attract readers to their site? It’s true—and if you have a blog, you can make use of content articles to help boost the popularity of your blog.

When you add good quality content articles to your blog, you can attract more readers to your blog in a variety of ways. Here are a few reasons why content articles are a good idea if you are looking to boost your readership.

Keywords: Nothing will attract readers to your site faster than keywords. When a person puts in certain words in an Internet search sites, websites that contain those words will show up first. For example, if you are a small business owner that sells latex balloons, then you can have content articles that contain the keywords “latex balloons”. When a reader or potential customer types in those words, your site (providing a web crawler has found it) will pop up your site.

Informative and educational: Content articles are informative, educational and yes, entertaining. If you are not good at writing, you can easily find web content writers to help you fill your blog with content articles. Your readers want to read something that pertains to them-they do not want to waste his or her time reading garbled information that has no value or use to them. Content articles can help you solve this problem by giving them what they are looking for.

Updates: When you use content articles on your Internet blogs, you can easily update your information whenever you see fit. This means that if you want to provide your reader with updated content articles every day or every other day, your readers will not get bored reading the same content day after day. In fact, if you make use of a good content article writer, you can order several articles on various topics at the same time. Then, you can post when you feel it is necessary. You will never run out of information and you can be sure that your readers will appreciate the regular updates.

More hits: When you have a library of content articles on your website and blog, you will soon find that you get more hits to your blog. This is important because that means that you are reaching a wide audience and you are building reader loyalty. When they come to your blog, they know they will have something that will keep them coming back for more. This is an extremely effective marketing tool for businesses, as loyal readers will soon become loyal customers. Having fresh content each day will ensure that these readers will come back and might even recommend your site to others.

So, if you are just dabbling in the world of blogging, you can certainly increase the traffic to your website by using good content articles. Whether your write the articles yourself, or you hire a writer to do it for you, your readers will enjoy your blog more. When you start posting content articles, make sure you take the time to find information that is pertinent to you and your business (if you are a business owner) and your readers. Blogging is a big business and content articles can help your blog succeed.

Successful Affiliate Marketing

There are hundreds of thousands of affiliate programs
out there, all of which claim to be the best. Many
of them try to give you the impression that all you
have to do is use their banners and links then wait
for the money to start rolling in. Although this
can be the case, this type of scenario normally
applies to large sites with a lot of web traffic.

Choosing banners
With most affiliate programs, you are offered a
variety of banners to plan on your website, as very
few of them will be effective. The problems with
most banners are their size. If you choose a banner
that is high in size, it will take a long time to
implement and use. Therefore, it’s recommended that
you use banners no more than 15kb in size.

When you select any types of graphical advertising,
you should try and keep the theme of your website in
mind. Even though graphical ads are meant to stand
out and catch people’s eye, they shouldn’t be to
the point where everything else on the page is
completely ignored.

Pop ups and unders
A lot of companies will now give their affiliates
the chance of using pop up or pop under ads. In
most opinions, pop ups aren’t the way to go. They
can easily annoy visitors and are normally closed
before they even have the chance to load. You
should instead go for pop unders and those types
that only display once per visit.

Text link ads
Once of the most successful means of advertisting
is text link ads. They are easy on bandwidth, don’t
use a lot of space, and they easily be implemented
into most types of page layouts. Good text links
offer some information as to why your visitor
should investigate your offers.

Email advertising
The direct promotion via email has really taken off
over the last several years, although it has
brought tons of spam with it. If you plan to use
email as a method of advertising your products,
you should stand behind what you sell and make
yourself available to answer any questions.

Patience
If you feel confident that your site can generate
great sales for certain company’s, you should
contact them to negotiate an arrangement. If they
don’t seem to enthused to begin with, you should
remain patient as companies are approaced every
day with affiliates looking to make better deals.

The reality remains that most affiliates can’t
deliver what they promise, and companies are
aware of this.

You should always keep in mind that most forms of
advertising will take time. No matter what methods
you plan to use, give it some time before you make
any type of decision. Although something may not
happen overnight – it very well could in a few
days or weeks.

Where Adsense Should Appear

Adsense No Comments »

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

When deciding whether to incorporate Adsense into your website there are several factors to consider. Many feel that it diminishes their brand, whilst others see it as a useful tool for visitors which creates revenues and makes their content profitable.

The choice can largely come down to the commercial goals and the purpose of your website. Many businesses who sell products decide to place Adsense adverts within their website. This would appear to be a strange choice, opening up opportunities for rivals to promote their service or product to your potential customer base.

Many publishers claim that they are only doing this to allow companies who provide ancillary services to advertise. These claims have some merit, as those who for example sell pillows could provide those who sell bedding with an opportunity to advertise.

Although this would make sense, there are still those online retailers who allow rivals to penetrate their audience. Many claim that there are still benefits in allowing your direct competitors to advertise within your website. One of these is that ultimately if visitors wish to see your competitors they would be able to see them through a Google search regardless. This may be true however the thought of an established brand like coco-cola having a Pepsi advert in their website is not even a possibility.

Another factor which is considered in this situation is that publishers do not feel that Adsense is effective in making conversions. They feel that visitors who would click on adverts are not highly qualified customers, as they would quickly navigate to the materials or products that interest them if they were.

Despite Adsense being a questionable choice for online retailers, it is surely a good supplementary service for other varieties of online publishers. For example, a website which provides a free service like dictionary.com gets high levels of traffic, and is able to make their service profitable through adsense. This has been the case for Bloggers who originally provided content free of charge, being unable to reach the scale that is necessary to contract with advertisers directly.

This could also apply to other previously free services, including wider forms of information broadcast, and news for example. In 2006 a man who later published a selection of Videos claims to make $19,000 a month through adsense, claiming that he was also contacted through Google to help him increase the CTR (Click Through Rate) that he achieved. The thought of success like this has been a major factor in stimulating online publishers to opt for Adsense.

Many publishers also claim that adsense makes their website look more professional. Those who are able to contract with advertisers are generally seen to provide a service with large appeal, and therefore those unfamiliar with the program may feel that the Adsense advertiser is in this position.

Adsense however, is also aligned with those publishers who use the service purely to provide links to adverts. Everyone has done a Google search, clicked on an Adwords advert and came into a website which reads top ten resources on… This is a major problem, as is generally something that surfers find frustrating. If people see that it says adverts by Google, and they then see adverts by Google on another site, they may align that site with consumer unfriendly practices. This is therefore an issue which Google has to address, to maintain Adsense as a reputable service.

Regardless of the disadvantages and the websites for which the service may be inappropriate it is still a useful tool for website visitors. Those who visit a website, and click on a link provide revenues for the publisher, whilst those who provide free services are able to generate revenue.

The only fear that Google has, is that rival PPC programs offer better deals to publishers and they decide to go elsewhere, therefore taking advertisers with them. However, ultimately it is best for advertisers and publishers if they largely remain in same PPC circuit.

Warning! You Can’t Fool Google.

Almost daily, I see a report about a company or individuals who is trying to fool Google through SEO. When are they going to learn that you just can’t fool Google? Why would you even want to try it, with when you risk being banned from the biggest search engine in the world? Many people seem to try just because they wonder if it could ever be done. As a general rule of thumb: it can’t!

There are some instances in which people think that they have tricked google. They believe that something that they have done has rocketed their site to the top of Google’s listings and they truly believe that they have managed to “stick it to the man.” Nine times out of ten when this happens they either performed an SEO procedure that Google allows or even endorses or they just happened to fill Google’s criteria better than other sites in their category without even realizing it.

Once in a while someone will actually come up with a way to fool Goggle. They will be enjoy a nice high spot on google’s listings for maybe even several months, but then the end comes for these proud sites. As soon as Goggle notices that it has been cheated, these sites are removed from the index; sometimes permanently.

The fact is that these people don’t understand the power that Goggle has. Anyone with a real interest in making money from the web should consider that getting banned from the search engines effectively removes your site from the web. They don’t have to let you back in, and they don’t have to give you any right to respond – you’re entirely at their mercy. You don’t want to get in their bad books.

Aside from the fact that Goggle will remove you from its listings, there is another incentive against trying to fool Goggle. If you fool Goggle, you are fooling your clients. There is no reason to try to lure visitors onto your page expecting to get something and really giving them something else. This is a poor way to conduct business and more often than not it will chase the customer away for good.

If you want your website to be found in categories that don’t apply to it, try purchasing ads on pages that are listed towards the top of the Goggle listings in these categories. You can actually increase your sites reputation in Google’s eyes rather than hurting it by adding another link to your site. This is an excellent form of marketing because it allows you to reach out beyond your market simply by dishing out a few dollars a month.

Some of the most popular methods of trying to fool Google’s PageRank system are link farms and link exchanges. Link farms are basically websites that exist only to get links to specific sites counted by the search engines. Link exchanges are groups of websites that each pay a monthly fee to link to each other – like link farms, only more expensive and dodgy. In both cases, the websites involved are attempting to climb the ranks of Google’s search results through the sheer quantity of links to them –this is known as Googlebombing. But it doesn’t always work.

Goggle knows that cheaters can ruin their search engine for the rest of us. After all, if link farms inflate the rankings of less-useful Websites, then we’ll all start seeing worse search results. That’s why Goggle constantly updates PageRank to keep those kinds of sites away. The Page Rank formula that Goggle implements is mysterious and ever changing. This is the primary reason that Goggle cannot be fooled.

It has been found recently that Goggle is now sending out ‘cloak bots’, disobeying robots.txt to find out whether sites are ‘cloaking’ – serving a different page to search engines than what visitors see. These ‘cloak bots’ are controversial but seem to have some positive effects on the Google’s results.

Unethical methods make it difficult for people who are trying to do SEO the proper way, which is one of the reasons why it needs to be monitored so carefully. If people stopped trying to find ways to manipulate the system, it would be much easier to keep up with what’s going on.

As you may already know, Goggle publishes a list of guidelines suggesting legitimate ways to improve a site’s ranking, by making it more accessible and better. One of the tips is to make pages for users and not for search engines. You’d do well to listen to their advice.
