Mailing List Profits - Promoting Hosting Companies
Affiliate Marketing, Opt-in List July 7th, 2007Making extra cash by promoting web hosting companies for big $$. One of the questions that most of my mailing list members always ask is who can they use for reliable web hosting? With so many hosting companies on the internet it can be very confusing. If you have a responsive mailing list who actually look forward to your newsletter, product updates and more, then promoting or recommending a hosting company to those users can be a lucrative way of earning extra income from your mailing list.
Below I’ve outlined simple steps to making money from your mailing list promoting web hosting companies. Follow these steps and you can earn a few hundred dollars per month or even thousands per month depending on how responsive of a mailing list you have.
Step #1: Register with HostGator.com affiliate program
URL: http://hostgator.com/affiliates.shtml
If you average 5 sales per month, you earn $50 per sale, if you average 6-10 sales per month, you earn $75 per sale. If you average, 10-20 sales per month, you earn $100 per sale, and finally if you earn 21 sales or more per month you earn $125 per sale. Even if just a fraction of your mailing list responds, you still can earn a few hundred dollars per month.
See the pay model below:
There are other hosting affiliates you can use as well, but I’ve used Host Gator since they have a good reputation. For your review, I’ve listed other hosting companies who offer affiliate programs so that you can compare.
Lunarpages.com
With Lunarpages.com you earn $65 for every customer you refer them.
URL: http://www.lunarpages.com/affiliate/
Globalt.com
They offer $65 per sale for your first two referrals, and then $100 per sale from that point forward.

Those two companies are very reputable and have been in the hosting business for quite sometime. As noted I personally use Host Gator, but you can try those other two companies as backup options.
Step #2: Create a mini-sales page
Once you’ve registered with the two companies above, you should create a min-sales page. This page would list the features and options available with the hosting packages offered. For an example see this site:
http://www.9999mb.com/upgrade.jsp
The above site created a page exclusively for the hosting company, allowing the user to review the hosting packages before visiting HostGator.com. Having this page hosted on your website, allows you to track how many people from your mailing list actually visited this page, as long as your website has website statistics installed. You’ll then be able to track how many people left this page and actually clicked on the order now links, as the clicks shown in Host Gator will reflect all those who clicked off to Host Gator from that page.
If you review the example page above, you’ll notice the “order now” links actually point to their affiliate link. This ensures that they are fully credited for the sale. You will need to do the same as well with your page. Once you’ve registered with Host Gator, you are issued an affiliate link, and you’ll then use that link for your order now links.
Example Order Link: http://secure.hostgator.com/cgi-bin/affiliates/clickthru.cgi?id=sarahsite&page=https://secure.hostgator.com/billing/order/orderwiz.php
In the above link the id=sarahsite is the affiliate id that tracks that the order is from the user “sarahsite”and once the order is completed, it will be immediately credited to that user’s account. You’ll also notice on the page that they list a discount code for the hosting packages. This gives your users even more incentive to sign up, since one of the packages allows anyone to get their first month of hosting for only a penny. This is the most popular package, called the “baby” package. It is important you have this on your page. Inform the visitors to the page, that by entering the coupon code “jury” they can receive the first month of hosting for only a penny. It’s the best selling point, and even though the coupon code is entered, you will still receive full credit for the sale.
Once you’ve created your page following the example I’ve mentioned above, you can then proceed.
Step #3: Promotional Mailing
Now that you have registered as an affiliate, and have your hosting page set up on your website, you can now mail your list with the initial offer. It can simply announce that you now use Host Gator as your new hosting company, and that you recommend this company due to their solid support etc. This way it’s a less “pushy” way of marketing. Obviously you only do this option if you are actually using Host Gator as your hosting company for any of your web sites.
Other options you have is when sending your regular mailings to users, include a footnote or close out each newsletter with “Click Here For Our Recommended Host”. This would be a link to your Host Gator page, where the user can review the plans available.
Another option for your mailing is to make mention that you’ve now partnered with Host Gator to bring fantastic savings to all your mailing list subscribers. You would inform them that they can receive their first month hosting for only a penny and that they can see more details at your hosting review page. You would then have a link pointing to your hosting page.
If you would rather not utilize a mini-sales page you have the option of placing text links in your mailing pointing to Host Gator ensuring the link has in your affiliate code.
That’s all there is to it. A simple process of making extra money from your mailing list by recommending hosting companies, ensuring that the links contain your affiliate code. It’s simple, and easy to setup. You could have this setup within a few minutes, and be mailing to your list shortly after, and possibly achieving sign ups right away. If your mailing list is filled with webmasters who respect and look forward to any information you can provide, more than likely you’ll find a few of them registering using your affiliate link. It’s a win/win situation for all involved, as Host Gator in my opinion is a very solid company. I’ve used them successfully with a few of my sites, and their affiliate program is very efficient, and they do pay on time, every time.
