The Importance of Backlinks

In the not too distant past it was a relatively easy procedure to get high rankings in the search engines. All you had to do was load your pages and meta tags with the same keyword. Many spammers took advantage of this and would stuff a page with keywords. Very often this was to re-direct visitors to other sites.

As could be expected, the search engines weren’t too happy when searchers looking for a bus timetable, for example, ended up at a porn site. They started to penalize sites that repeated keywords too often or used “hidden” keywords which used a font color that was the same as the background.

Nevertheless, so-called “on-page factors” such as the location of keywords and their density on the page remained a major search engine optimization (SEO) technique for many years. However, this started to change when Google introduced a new system to help gauge the quality of sites. This system was called Google PageRank, or more simply PR.

Page rank was originally based on the number of links to a site so all you has to do was gain thousands of links back to your site to get a higher PR. Again, spamming became commonplace with webmasters gaining lots of low quality links from places such as free-for-all link sites.

To combat this, Google changed the weighting of low quality sites and it became much more important to obtain links from genuinely worthwhile sites. Another important change to their algorithm involved the importance of anchor text. Anchor text is the text that other sites use to link to your site. Finally, more weighting was usually given to thematically-related sites. For example, if you have a site about dog collars it is better to get backlinks from other sites related to dogs (rather than say ‘shoes’).

How can you get these illusive high quality, thematically related backlinks to help increase your own search engine rankings? There are many techniques to do this. These include –

Write articles and submit them to quality article directory sites.

Post comments on blogs (but only those that don’t use the “nofollow” tag.

Participate in high PR forums and have a link back to your signature.

Submit a press release about your site.

Exchange links with other high quality sites (This may be difficult to achieve on it’s own, but you can provide an incentive such as offering to write exclusive articles for their site in exchange).

While Google isn’t the only search engine, it does provide the lion’s share of traffic. In addition, the other search engines are giving greater weighting to “off-page” factors such as backlinks as well. With a bit of effort you can get these quality links and see your own share of traffic increase as a result.

    Having a Profitable Blog

    Blogging No Comments »
    AddThis Social Bookmark Button

More and more people are starting to blog nowadays. If you are new to blogging, the most pertinent thing is to understand the difference between a blog and a static website. A static website is one written in a computer language such as HTML or javascript. It contains pages relevant to what a website is about. A blog also contains pages about a certain topic but the main difference is that a static website is generally unchanged unless updates need to be made to the content or if the webmaster decides to change the design of the website whereas a blog is dynamic in its contents. A blog’s content is updated regularly as often as the blogger desires (it can be several times a day). That’s what makes a blog interesting, and that’s why search engines in their quest to bring relevant and fresh content to searchers favor listing blogs.

So a blog is an ongoing updated series of content about a particular topic. Many people blog just for the fun of it by keeping an online diary of their activities regularly. But if you are intending to make your blog profitable, it takes a lot more skill. What are some of the skills needed for a profitable blog?

Firstly, there is the skill of finding a profitable niche. A niche is a topic people are interested in and therefore would draw readers to the blog. Many internet marketers advocate choosing a niche based on your likes, interests, hobbies and experience. But that would be too restrictive. If your aim is to make money with your blog, then it follows that you need to blog about what people are interested in and not necessarily what you may be interested in personally. Two sources to find niches people are interested in are Google Hot Trends and Wordtracker. Google Hot Trends gives you an hour-by-hour listing about what topics receive the most searches in Google. Go through this list and find any you may want to blog about. Once you identify one, insert the main keyword of this niche into Wordtracker. Wordtracker gives you a daily search count on a particular keyword and a list of related keywords. A good rule of thumb is that if a keyword gets above 100 searches in Wordtracker, it is a profitable niche. So if you find a niche topic in both Google Hot Trends and Wordtracker to blog about, you’ve got a potential money maker.

Secondly, there’s the skill of getting your blog in front of as many people as possible. This is also called traffic generation. For this, the important thing to do is find people interested in the topic of your niche. Visit forums related to the topic and become a participator. You will be able to add your blog URL to your signature file and when people want to find out more about your topic, they will click on your URL and be brought to your blog. Another important thing to do is introduce your blog to others by bookmarking it in social bookmarking sites like Digg, Delicious, Furl etc. If your blog topic is a popular one according to Google Hot Trends, chances are there would be many other people interested to read whatever is in your blog.

The final thing that is needed is the means to monetize your blog. This can be done through on-topic advertisement services like Adsense and Chitika or in-text advertisement services like Kontera.Once your blog has generated a large enough readership over time, you can further monetize it by selling advertisement space.

Making your blog profitable is a challenging venture. If you like blogging, making money from it would be an added bonus.

6 Ways To Build Traffic & Links Today

Web Traffic Tips No Comments »
    AddThis Social Bookmark Button

The use of positive statements and compliments when approaching a webmaster or newsletter publisher for an ad swap, link exchange or joint venture will have far greater impact and success than almost anything else to improve your response rate and traffic. The old expression you may recall is, “You can catch more flies with honey than
    vinegar”.

This same positive approach works as well on the Internet as in face-to-face situations in real life. Complimenting or flattering a person about anything they have done on line
is a great way to get your foot in the door and put them in a receptive mood for your proposal.

Here are six ways to go about doing this on the Internet:

    (1) Surf the Internet for sites which are complimentary but not competitive with yours.

Let them know what you like about their site and information they have there. Personalize a brief proposal to the webmaster and offer to exchange links in order to build traffic and search engine rankings.

    (2) Locate and subscribe to newsletters or ezines which are appropriate for your area or niche.

By subscribing and reading the newsletter or ezine you will become familiar with the author and the significance of his publication. When you find something useful and helpful, let
the publisher know. If you also publish an ezine, you can offer to do an ad swap which can bring you a lot of free traffic.

    (3) Write and distribute articles inviting others to join you in joint ventures and to exchange reciprocal links.

Writing an article a day and distributing it to directories and other publishers is a great, free way to get some exposure and free traffic.

    (4) Place links on your site.

Just a simple link on your site can gain you some needed and valuable exposure in a passive way. Offer a free report or other valuable resource like a software download to induce them. You just need to work on creating traffic to your site so visitors can take you up on your offer.

    (5) Use email signatures.

Simple email signatures that are well created can have a great impact. Set up your email program always to add them to any messages that you send out. Out Of Office replies can be set up to include your signature response also.

    (6) Respond to email offers.

Your positive response to selected email offers by others for more information can be the beginning of an on line relationship that will allow you to locate a joint venture or
    other valuable resource.

Promotion of any site or service on line takes consistent and determined effort. It is of primary importance to the success of your site on line. Each day should begin with a re-doubling of your promotional efforts and a search for discovering new effective promotional resources and methods.

The use of positive statements and compliments when approaching a webmaster or newsletter publisher for an ad swap, link exchange or joint venture will have far greater impact and success than almost anything else to improve your response rate and traffic.

Ways To Profit With Back End Products

Internet Marketing Articles No Comments »
    AddThis Social Bookmark Button

The best way to make money as an online business owner is through the use of back end products and offers.

A back end offer is simply a product or service that is offered to your customers after they have already purchased something from you. These are the most profitable type of sales, since you have already acquired the customer. In fact, once you have developed a series of back end products, you may even be able to afford to take a loss on the initial sale.

Back end offers really increase the lifetime value of a customer. You have already spent money on marketing to acquire the customer. Hopefully you have been lucky enough to make a profit on the initial sale. Now, everything else that you sell to that customer is pure profit. This is why many of the most successful marketers have a whole line of complementary products.

For example, take a look at the infomercials on late-night TV. Most of these actually lose money initially. However, you will then be sold a variety of add-on items (to make the first product work more effectively), and will be sold a subscription offer, vitamin plan, etc… This is smart marketing.

When you are creating your products, you should give some serious thought to what you will promote on the back end. Some excellent ideas are a monthly subscription or membership plan. Another great idea is to start a coaching program. Both of these are very easy to set up and run.

You could even combine online and offline methods for these offers. Write a monthly newsletter. Maybe even include a cd or a dvd as part of the package. A great service for producing these are kunaki dot com. They are also very affordable. You could even outsource the writing, typesetting and design of your monthly newsletter. If you have even less time available, another way of quick newsletter creation is to create an audio of what you want wrote and then send that to a freelance writer.

Incidentally, a professional monthly package like this really carries a very high perceived value. Your customers will be impressed to see a high-quality newsletter along with a professionally crafted cd (or dvd). This will also build credibility and trust with your customers. Then, you will be able to market more back end products to them.

Another great idea for a back end product is a monthly coaching program. What is your initial product about? Could you provide some extra training on one aspect of that topic? Obviously, it helps if you are a genuine expert in this area or market niche. Then again, even if you are not, just scour the internet and find the information you need.

The conclusion is that you never want simply to create a single product. You need to think what can be added to it to create extra value and higher profits. Make them all build on each other. Then you can afford to spend more money than your competitors to acquire customers. And you will make money. Back end sales are really where your profits lie.

The Idiot’s Guide to Article Marketing

    Article Marketing No Comments »
    AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Most article marketing slogans will try to pull you into the bandwagon with slogans like “You can earn money by blogging!” or “Make your blog generate cash!” However, beginners make a lot of mistakes when they try to submit their articles online. Below are the most common misconceptions about the business of writing content for the web.

    Avoid the hype text.

Whether you are writing for a website, or writing an online review about a certain product, you should always try not to sound like a hawker with a megaphone. Putting too many exclamation points (!!!) in your text is a big no-no. For one, it makes your readers feel like you think they are stupid, and secondly, it gives you away. When you write in an exclamatory (!!!) tone, you only end up sounding insincere. This is not the way to gain your readers’ trust.

    Stick to informative articles.

Whether you are writing for your own affiliate web site or an ezine that pays you depending on your word count, it is always safe to stick to informative topics. How-to articles are big right now. Everyone seems to be looking for self-help tips online, whether it is about carpentry or losing weight. Because how-to articles require a lot of research, it is safer to stick to topics you are familiar with. You would not want to be stuck with a lot of jargon you cannot understand. Writing articles is about translating your understanding of the subject matter onto the screen. If you cannot get anything about what you are reading, chances are, you will give nothing in what you are writing as well.

    Do keyword research.

You can do this simply by typing in what you think your prospective readers will search for when they are looking for your topic. This way, you can compare why one page is ranked over the other and what keywords actually reap a lot of results.

Using less common keywords will probably help you rank higher on search engines, although you stand less chance that this keyword will actually be keyed in by any prospective online reader. On the other hand, using common keywords will help you be included in one of the index pages of a search engine, but you will stand very little chance of actually being ranked in the first page.

The best place to start is with the master of search engines, Google. Who better would know what people are searching for than the most used search engine on the web? Google’s Keyword Research Tool can give you a list of related keywords in your niche, as well as the search count, competition, monthly trends, etc. You can find it here:

    https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

    Do not overdo the SEO.

Although it is necessary to know how to manipulate keywords in your articles so it can attract search engine spiders, it is not very good to overdo it. For example, repeating “hypertext inclusion” 40 times in a 400 word article will not only make what you have written sound like gibberish, it can get you banned from the most popular search engines online.

You should write for human readers first. Worry about the search engines later once you have come up with web content that is actually worth reading. There is nothing more irritating than looking at 400 words of garbage. If you are going to occupy a domain’s precious bandwidth, anyway, you might as well try to make your text useful.

    Try to be original.

Repeating information that has been recycled over and over online will not give you much of an edge as an article marketer. If you cannot get any new information about the topic you are writing about, you might as well try to be creative with your delivery. Again, we do not mean hype when we say creative. Keep your text readable, conversational, and entertaining. You should also never underestimate the power of a well written web article. Proofread your articles before publishing them, and make sure that you do not have any filler text that readers might find useless.

Keep your web content short, sweet, and strong. People who read through their screen do not have the time to filter junk information.

Link Partner Strategy to Leverage Your Marketing Results

Search Engine Optimization and SEO No Comments »
    AddThis Social Bookmark Button

The name of the game with Internet Marketing is productivity. Productivity means reaching the greatest number of targeted prospects with the least effort and expense to generate the most sales.

The key to productivity is leverage: expanding your marketing activity with resources and systems that run without your direct effort or excessive involvement.

Developing a Link Partner strategy is one recommended way to leverage your efforts and increase your productivity, although there are numerous additional ways to apply leverage to your Internet business efforts. These may include:

    - Advertising in ezines, online forums, websites and other sources

    - Participation as a member in online business and marketing forums

    - Participation in Social Networking sites

With each of these leveraging systems, it may take some effort and time to get them set up and to begin establishing your website presence.

The advantage to any or all of these systems is that once set up, they will produce results for you with minimal effort and will continue to do so for extended periods of time.

Link Partners are website owners or webmasters with whom you exchange your website link. You will place a link to their site somewhere on your website, and they will place your link somewhere on their site.

Links can be in text ad form or banner form. Links might be included in an article, a site review or a blog post. Or they might be listed in a business services directory. The style or nature of the link exchange should be agreed upon before the links are posted to prevent any misunderstandings or disappointments.

Link Partners may be easy to find, but the real essence of an effective Link Partner strategy is exchanging links with quality websites. That is, sites with a respectable PageRank and who are already attracting the same kind of visitors that you are targeting for your online business.

There are many good web tools available that can be used to check the PageRank of a website. You can do an Internet search for page rank tools.

To find quality sites and to encourage them to want to support your Link Partner strategy, here are some recommended steps:

    1) When surfing the Internet, watch for and bookmark sites that you believe are suitable for your purpose. You could also do Internet searches for your keywords, then check out the sites that rate the highest in the search engine results.

    2) Once you identify a suitable Link Partner candidate, write a complimentary review for the site and post the review on your website or blog page.

    3) Contact the webmaster or owner of the reviewed site, advise them of the review and give them permission to publish the review on their site along with a link pointing back to your site as the review source. As an alternative to publishing the review on their site, they can simply include a link that points to the review on your site.

You can apply this Link Partner strategy to any number of partners you choose, keeping in mind that the more link partners you have, the more effectively you will be able to leverage your efforts and expand your reach.

Productivity is the name of the game. Increased sales are the goal. An effective Link Partner strategy can be the ideal means to achieve the desired end.

Does AdSense Belong on my Blog?

    Adsense No Comments »
    AddThis Social Bookmark Button

So you’re setting up a new blog and you have lots of decisions to make. Which design should you use? What plug-ins should you add? How do you monetize your blog?

When considering how to make money with your blog, the question always comes up about whether or not to place AdSense ads on your site. Let’s go over the plusses and minuses of mixing ads with the content of your site.

    +Plus+

An easy way to monetize your blog, especially if you are a beginner blogger, is to place AdSense ads on it. You decide on the format, size, and color and AdSense walks you through the whole thing. Look around at other blogs to get ideas of what you like. Keep in mind, AdSense has restrictions as to the number of ads you can add, but you don’t want to overdo it anyway.

Ads are passive income. You make money if people click on them (PPC). You just stick them up there and let them do their job. You don’t presell or tell people to click on them. Experiment on placement, type, color, etc. and track which works best.

It’s true that blogs are a creative outlet, but if you’re not doing anything else to make money with your blog, why not use AdSense? The money you make may not replace your income, but it’s still money coming in.

    -Minus-

Placing ads on your site may feel like a cop-out if you want your blog to remain a pure artistic creation. Your readers may not like it if you suddenly start throwing up ads. If your blog is already going strong before you start using AdSense, then make the ads small, unobtrusive, and few to start with.

AdSense may not make you much money. It depends on the amount of traffic coming your way and the relevancy of the ads. Sometimes there is a better use for that spot the ads are on, especially if that spot is above the fold.

When you put ads on your site you are asking people to click away. This is not a good idea on every site. For example, if you have a one page sales page where you are selling your product, you don’t want people to click away, you want them to buy now.

It might be a big decision whether to put AdSense ads on your blog, but it’s easier to put them on in the beginning and take them off later than to add them after the fact. Either way, though, your decision can be changed. Just remember your blog content should always be your main concern.

    What You Should Know

    Home Business No Comments »

With the increasing amount of CD duplication options
for equipment, its very important that you read the
reviews for the different types of equipment you
are considering before you make that final decision
    and choose your model.

The best CD duplication equipment for your project
will all depend on the volume of CDs you plan to
duplicate at a time, and the amount of money that
you are planning to invest on a particular piece of
    equipment.

Your best source for reading reviews of CD duplication
equipment is on the Internet. There are many
different consumer websites out there that will allow
users to post reviews of equipment, then rate them
on a five or ten point scale. Anytime you are
reading reviews, it’s very important that you get
your information from a trusted and reliable source.

Websites that are up by the owner of the product, or
those that are trying to sell you specific hardware
normally aren’t the best to turn to when you need to
read a review. No one who is trying to get you to
buy a certain piece of hardware is going to tell
you about the flaws the equipment has, or even let
you know about a competitor who has a similiar item
for sale at half the price.

All across the internet, you can find many different
websites that offer the information you seek. There
are several that offer forums, where other users
will tell you honest opinions and give you feedback
about the equipment they own. This can be a great
way to find out about the duplication equipment
your interested in and what else is available for
    you to purchase.

Another excellent place to look for CD duplication
equipment reviews is trade magazines and even
electronic magazines. Magazines will normally test
equipment then share their their opinions with their
readers. Always be sure when you are reading a
review that it’s an article sponsored by the
magazine and not a paid advertisement.

CD duplication reviews of equipment are a great
resource when trying to find a piece of equipment
to use. With so many on the market, its always
good to have resources when you need to make
an important decision. A review will also tell you
everything the label and description of the
product leaves out, which can help to ensure you
get the best piece of duplication equipment for
    your hard earned money.
